Back to the basics

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

I went to Gold’s gym tonight and forgot they closed at 7pm. So I went to the 400sq foot gym at work (opened 24/7). Only problem is there is no leg machines. Have no fear…. I went back to the basics. The following were used: smith machine, flat bench, dumbbells, single stack pully system.

I started with smith machine squats, went to single leg curl (with pully system), Calf raises on smith machine, then single leg lunge (1 foot on flat bench), finished with sumo squats. 15min cardio

I have to say I’m feeling it! Normally I like to do heavy squats or leg press. Nothing was done real heavy tonight. However my legs are toast.

Just remember to take it back to the basics every now and then. Some people get spoiled with their 65,000+ sq foot gyms ;)

Tired ever since I started power training

Sunday, May 25th, 2008

I started training with a partner again. We are doing a  "get big" power training schedule. Its two different training styles that alternate each weak. One week is a heavy power lifting style workout. Ever since we have started this, my body has been tired and sore. On one hand I’m very excited I get sore for 2-3days after the training session. On the other hand, I dont like how tired I am. Feels like I have AIDS or something (maybe i should get checked j/k). I think I’m eating enough food as well as getting close to 8 hours of sleep on a regular basis. Anyone else experience this? Anything that can help the tired feeling?

Sick and want to train!

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

So I’ve been sick since Thursday with a fever and chills. Today is the first day I didn’t feel like death. Tomorrow i will attempt to train chest. This has been a hard few days. I’ve wanted to train bad, but been confined to my bed this whole time. To get myself ready for tomorrow, I’ve been watching BB videos. I have not weighted myself yet, but am convinced i lost a good 5lbs. On a plus note I will be feeling 100% on new years eve (not that i will be drinking, but want to go out with friends). January 1st starts my hardcore training for my mid year show

Stay tuned

Problem with bulking

Saturday, September 1st, 2007

As expected with the weight gain, I’m starting to lose my cuts. Its getting closer to the end of the year when traditionally people gain their weight in the winter. Only problem, there is no winter in Florida lol. Your expected to be cut year round here (at least when you live 10min from the beach). I know this needs to be done in order to take me to the next level. I guess mentally i just need to except my body fat will be higher for the next 4 months

Bulking phase

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

So my weight was 183lbs today. Up 7lbs since i started bulking! I plan on doing this until the beginning of January and then I will start cutting up for the Mr. West Palm Beach Show. Target weight is set at 195lbs. I’ve started eating cookie dough at bed time with my protein shake… seems to be helping. Also, I will be adding powder lifting movements into the mix. Hopefully this will add some much needed mass.

I was thinking of trying IDS Mass Tabs, as I’ve heard of great gains from it. Anyone got any experience with them?

Cell Tech was cheap, so why not?

Monday, August 13th, 2007

Ok so my buddy told me cell tech was buy one get on free on bodybuilding.com. Ive tried 2 tubs of cell tech before and its true it does work. If i recall right i gained 5-7lbs in the first two weeks (im sure it was all water). The reason i stopped was i couldn’t justify the price. Well with buy one get one free its less then $30 a month. Now this is not the "hardcore" version. The ingredients are a bit different, but for the price its a good deal! I ordered some and if your looking to gain a few lbs then you might want to try it to. I will post my results later on.

And no i do not work for any supplement company

Light weight baby

Sunday, July 22nd, 2007

Ok so for the last 2 weeks I have been doing lighter weight for 20 reps to try to invoke a mitochondrial response. Also, i have changed working bi’s and tri’s on different days. Now I do an arms day with both on the same day. All i can say is today was a great arm workout! I got a major burn pushing to 20reps (normally i only do 6-10). The pump was amazing making my arm swell over an inch larger then when they are cold. In Ronie Coleman style i was screaming "light weight baby… light weight!" (the gym was totally empty). So for you big boys and girls out there, don’t forget the light weight now and then. I will continue for 2 more weeks. To my understanding it takes about a month before additional mitochondrial come into play. Hopefully, the end result will be i can lift more weight in the 6-10rep range. Ill keep you posted

Mass time kiddies

Thursday, July 5th, 2007

For those of you who dont know… I’ve been battling an injury for over a year and lost a lot of mass. Well I’m starting to feel better! Getting stronger and stronger every day. I think its time to mass up! I’ve started the bulking diet and have just revamped my lifting program. Also, I will be getting serious with my supplementation (meaning I’ll actually take them all the time lol). In addition, im going to try universals animal stak2 (not expecting much). The only bad news is i will be losing my training parner Sara at the end of the month, so i gotta do this solo. Looking to get back to 190lbs lean and gain that inch back on my arms. Wish me luck!

Got my new certification

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

My certification came in from Cooper Institute the other day. What does this mean? Nothing really, but my job wanted me to have this cooper certification. Another Master Fitness Trainer cert under my belt. I look forward to continuing my education

Cooper Institute in Dallas

Friday, June 22nd, 2007

So I was sent to the Cooper Institute in Dallas to complete a Master personal trainer course. This would be my third master personal trainer class (NSCA & NCCPT). With that said it was a review for the most part. Nothing really new or different, so it was not much of a challenge. The layout of the course was rather standard. 8 hours for 5 days in a row. 1 hour lunch break and a few 10-15min breaks in between. Lecture was the primary method of teaching (99% of the time). Content wasn’t as hard as the NSCA or NCCPT.

I stayed at the lodge located on the Cooper campus. It was a decent room and for the price $99/night, it was convenient too. I had access to two pools, continental breakfast, and the Cooper fitness center. Since I never went in the pools I don’t have much to report on that. Although, passing by I would see a cute girl every now and then. The continental breakfast was limited to a few carb choices and didn’t seem to fill me up. One of the best things was the fitness center. It was state of the art! Indoor track and every piece of cardio equipment ever made lol. Being the bodybuilder that I am, I was a bit disappointed in the size of the weight lifting area. It was rather cramped during peek hours. Needless to say I just started going after peek time to avoid the rush (and wait).

On a plus note the staff and people on site were VERY friendly. I had no shortage of people to smile at and carry on a conversation with. The facility was packed with attractive athletic women, but the majority seemed to be married (boo for me). My demographic seemed to be lacking. They were either really young or married with children.

Overall feeling: I enjoyed myself and hope to be back there in 2008 for the law enforcement course. However, personally I would not spend the $695 price tag for the class (plus airline tickets and hotel). If you can drive to the location or don’t mind spending the money, then I would recommend this class if you need to become a master personal trainer.
