What is the most important trait for success?

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

Again, another good question and which I answered on a professiona network….here is my answer:   For health and fitness I would probably focus more on the 1) setting goals 2) have a burning desire to achieve 3) discipline to stick to a program of hard workouts and strict/ clean diet  4) track progress on goals  5) make up small victory celebrations- ie cheat days :) 6) surround yourself with like minded people and workout partners (that’s where bb.com and you come in :)   7) be willing to endure pain more than most.  8) change up your routine every 4-8 weeks.

“Emotional elasticity. You have to be emotionally nimble to navigate the choppy waters of success- personal and professional. Of course setting goals, having a burning desire and passion aligned with your goals, and ensuring you play to your strengths, persevering, etc… None of those matter a lot if you can’t navigate life with emotional balance. That being said, it is very tough to find meaningful success that will leave a legacy if you can’t do it with people. So…sorry…I will add one more; "winning with people". This really goes back to playing in the sandbox well starting at a young age. Most of the success I have attained or seen achieved has been accomplished by those who work well with people. And, winning with people more or less tends to be achieved by focusing on what others want first and discovering what you can do to help that person align their strengths to achieve their goals.”

How did you connect with friends on BB.com

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

Have you ever stopped and tried to remember how you connected or found some of your friends on BB.com?  I honestly have forgotten- LOL!  I have really been lucky to connect with some who keep me motivated with their blogs, workouts, and progress pics.

What Impact Do You Want To Leave On The World

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

I answered this question today on a professional networking service I use and thought I would share.  I only had a few minutes to answere before running to a meeting, but it was a good start.  I would definitely add that I want to leave an impact in the gym by busting ass everyday! :)

“Wihtout being real verbose or writing my eulogy - LOL… simply put, a person that helped others achieve their success. I have found that my success will come naturally through that process. There is a lot of detail that could be shared on how I approach that goal…to share a few…

1) Focusing on my personal growth and well being such that I have the energy and knowledge to bring value to others.

2) Focusing on bringing a sense of levity to situations- especially in business- while we deal with very serious topics and many that don’t have clear or black and white answers- it is easy to become over serious or hyper serious when what can bring the proper chemistry to those situations is a sense of relaxation and play- which I have found- opens the door to more creativity, etc.

3) Coaching and helping others discover their true strengths and calling.

4) Positivity or asset based thinking- this versusdeficit based thinking. We are exposed to and peppered with negativity all day long from colleauges, the media, friends, etc.. I focus- best I can- to remain focused on what I have direct control over- which at the minimum is my attitude.

More to come- gotta fun for now. Thanks for the great question and have a fantastic day!”

Thinking and talking is easy…

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

action and execution is difficult, and to put one’s thoughts into action is the most difficult thing in the world.  Morphed a little from a Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe quote.  Just resonated with me- I run into a lot of people who talk a lot, have great intetions (which, by the way, is great)….but are not so great on the follow through.  What I love about working out and the business that I am in….they both require a lot of internal (and some external) motivation and just plain ‘ole hard work, blood, sweat, and tears.  Anyway- one of the things I love about BB.com and my friends….everyone is motivated, motivating eachother, and busy busting ass!

When the world is running down….

Saturday, May 24th, 2008

you make the best of what’s still around.   Do you recognize those music lyrics?  Just saw this band in concert and those lyrics struck me.  Seems many people I encounter are always focused on the world running down and aren’t focused (and thankful) for everything they have / that is still around.  I admit this is challenging….to avoid deficit thinking…it is thrown at us all day from every angle.  Anyway- just sharing!  Have a great weekend everyone!

Be sure to go past “splat”!

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

A young man traveling comes across a sage and decides to ask the sage how he can find success.  The sage simply points to the direction.  The young man heads off eagerly and "splat"!  He comes back to the sage tattered and battered and thinking that he took a wrong turn…asks again which way to success.  The sage points in the same direction.  The young man heads off eagerly…and "splat" again!  This time he comes back very irritated and even more physically beaten and tattered….and screams….I asked you which way to success and each time you have lead me in the wrong direction!  The sage now talks and says…success is that direction….you have to go past "splat"!  Too many times it is easy to give up when faced with obstacles…and success may only be one more step away!

Mind over mattress!

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

I don’t know about "you all"  (still don’t have the "y’all" down yet :)  …this time change (and I guess the travel for 3 days during it) has kicked my a$$.  But, finally, this morning, I pulled off "mind over mattress" and got out of bed (albeit 30 minutes later than I wanted to) for 30 minutes of cardio- light running.  So, maybe one day down of many more morning runs to come - and the weather is nicer finally too.  Tonight a little shoulders, traps, abs :)   Anyway- don’t let the mattress win!!! :)

Good to be home!

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

Travel bites!  I didn’t get one workout in and had to eat mostly crappy food….did take some protein bars and Labrada Shakes.  Did get a great workout in tonight though!  All Chest!  And, once again, the M-Stak with SuperPump250/ SizeOn Combo worked again!  About 30 mins after taking M-Stak I was slinging the weights like a mad man!  Logged the workout!

Don’t make me laugh it still hurts…Abs still sore…Wow!

Saturday, March 8th, 2008

Ok- clearly the ab/core work I did Thurs was over the top!  It is Saturday and it still hurts to laugh :)   So….heading out this morning for 30mins of cardio/ run (37 degress in Dallas :(  this morning and then hitting the gym for a "pulling day"…Back and Bi’s.  Traveling this afternoon so only  some cardio on Sun-Tues, but taking my "perfect pushups" with me :)   Is that gay?  Sorry if anyone is gay- that’s cool…I just use that term and mean nothing derogatory….just don’t hit on me :)   just kidding…whatever..LOL! (Ouch- still hurts)

Abs are on fire today! :)

Friday, March 7th, 2008

After the chest work yesterday, I did 3 sets of hanging leg raises…then when I got home last night I did another 30 mins of core work with yoga, medicine balls, bridges, etc…  wow..not sure I can laugh without mild pain today!   Lazy this morning though….no workout…should have been up doing 30mins of cardio, but used the snow in Dallas as an opportunity to sleep in :)    Oh and the glass of red wine last night :)
