Bodybuilding Injuries

I’ve just recently come back to hitting the weights after about 3 months off due to a bruised wrist tendon (o.k., hold the jokes), which is actually my first bodybuilding-related injury.  When it happened I tried to work through it, thinking it may just work itself out—which I now know is a very stupid way to go about it.  Had I known better, like those that have suffered any kind of weight training injuries do, it only gets worse.  After a few months off (doctor’s orders) I’m back in full swing.  Oddly enough, starting back hasn’t been all that difficult. And, I’m now back to about 95% strength after only one week.  Going forward, I’ll be wearing the lifting gloves with the wrist supports and blah blah blah blah.

So what about any of you? Ever had a workout-related injury? How long were you out? How much did it affect your workouts when you came back?

dude, i just messed my wrist up today.. can’t figure out how but it hurts like a mofo.. i’m hoping it is just a sprain or something… darn pisses me off, i guess i’ll take your advice a lay off until it feels better.. i’ll take my frustrations out on the damn squat rack for now..

I was lifting real hard about 5 years ago, and developed tendonitis in my elbow. Couldn’t lift anything heavier than 315, and no tricep work at all. So I feel your pain. Took me about 6 months to get back on track. Sometimes you have to let the body rest.

    Wow bsto915,
Out for 6 months? That’s a really long tome. I can’t imagine what half a year off would do to my workouts, not to mention my progress. Yeah, injuries suck overall.

Happy to hear you’re back in full force. I actually blew a disc doing squats 10 years ago, using bad form. Rehab was crazy (lots of swimming) but now I’m back to normal. I’m still lifting, but leary of squats now. I do them sparingly on the Smith Machine.

Wow. Yeah, as I listed in that bio questionaire about dangerous excercises–squats is one of the most harmful excercises one can do…if not executed properly. I’m glad that you’re back lifting again.
