Back in the gym
After two months of soul searching I am finally back in the gym. Around mid-December I began feeling guilty about how much time I was putting into bodybuilding. I felt like I was neither glorifying God, nor utilizing my time in a manner that God deemed acceptable. A main reason for this was the fact that I was lifting for vanity and not health, enjoyment, or the sport of bodybuilding. I was the guy in the tight t-shirts, who went to clubs and tried to impress girls with his appearance, rather than his intellect. I knew that I needed to change, and began immersing myself in the word (the Bible) for a few hours a day. I also began asking God for a sign to validate my belief in his existence and an answer to my bodybuilding dilemma. A month or so passed and I had yet to come to any conclusions or realizations. Then last Sunday at church my prayers were finally answered. Mid-sermon I zoned out and began thinking how awesome it would be if I had enough money to pay off the mortgage/bills of someone who was in financial distress- not weird in itself. However, less than a minute after thinking this thought, the preacher said exactly what I had been thinking. I felt like God was speaking to me, but also realized that this occurrence could be coincidence. I got further validation of his existence less than twenty-four hours later. The next day I was reading a book entitled "A Place Called Heaven," which is a true account of a man who was pronounced dead for 8 hours as the result of an automobile accident, saw Heaven, and came back to tell of his experiences. As I was reading the book I began to think about life on other planets and how it is never mentioned in the holy books of any major religions. Let me premise my experience by saying that I have only thought of life on other planets once or twice in my entire life. Anyways back to my story…I began thinking about life on other planets as I was reading, and thought nothing of it. However, I was absolutely shocked when I saw that next page addressed life on other planets completely out of the blue. I am a very logical and educated person, so I immediately thought of the probability that this was random chance. I deemed it to be less that 1 in 1,000,000+. The entire book up until that point had been about the physical appearance of Heaven, and the "life on other planets notion" in "A Place Called Heaven" was brought up in one sentence and succeeded (came after) my thought of life on other planets. My entire body then started to tingle and I can honestly say, without a shadow of a doubt, this was God showing me he was real.
