Blog Entry

April 18, 2009

Well I haven’t posted since I had the flu back at the end of March. I did lose about 13 lbs during this nasty flu, then put about 4-5 back on when I re-hydrated. I’m back into the routine but have seemingly plateaued. I haven’t lost a pound in a couple weeks now. I think maybe the whey shakes are adding too many calories to my daily amount…or ???

Tired and sick

March 30, 2009

OK here I sit with a REALLY nasty flu, and I noticed I haven’t posted since March 20. The kids were home for spring break last week and our son spent the better part of the week with this crap…and he’s still not over it. Now I’m into day 4 of it, and the wife’s starting to show signs of the crud getting her too. Anywho…

I haven’t been to the gym since last Thursday. So I’ve missed 2 cardio days and one lifting day. I can definitely feel missed time. I just hope to keep my high motivation once this flu leaves me. One good sign is that I just can’t wait until I can get back to the gym!

Friday night

March 20, 2009

Alright, another week in the bag and I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s gym session already. I still haven’t settled into a weights routine so I’m constantly in debate about "what I’m going to do today" so I guess I should just create a program and get after it. I’ve looked at many pre-made versions here and there’s always something that just won’t fit into my gym because of missing equipment. I guess I could sub-in something in it’s place and just live with it. But then I’m not going to get the exact same results that the "writer" of the program would expect…but close. Now my next decision…split or full body? With the split I only have a certain area of my body hurting on recovery or I have lots of parts spread out.I’m only after strength at this point and any size gains that come with it will be icing on the cake. I just need to tighten up all the saggy parts.

I’m still doing 5 days/week of cardio, but the weight’s not coming off. It’s got to be diet at this point I expect. I think my diet’s pretty solid…maybe not enough calories? 1800-2000 enough for a 300 pounder? I’m thinking I’ll raise the count up next week and see what happens. I’m never hungry with 3 average meals and 3 small snacks a day. Sometimes I feel bloated eating everything. Like tonisghts supper…a couple pieces of roast chicken, a mixed greens salad, and a glass of milk. Followed with my viatmins and omegas…I’m stuffed. And I’m only an hour away from bedsnack.

Anywho - Peace

just about 6 weeks in

March 18, 2009

Well I’m about 6 weeks back into the workout scene. Started at 307 worked down to 302 and back up to 304 this morning. UGH! I’m doing 35 minutes on the elliptical 4 days a week (M, T, Th, F) with weights 3 days a week (T, Th, S), and Sun, Wed. off. I’m not seeing any progress in the bathroom scale tho. I think I have my diet pretty solid right now so I’m not sure what’s going on. I’m tracking all my food and workouts so I can keep some history. Maybe I need to talk to a nutritionist. My gym has an amateur competition lifter for their "in-house" trainer. I’ll hit him up for some tips and just gonna keep on truckin!. - Peace

2 days off

March 15, 2009

Well here it is, the end of the weekend. I’ve had a nasty cold and the kids are sick too. So the wife and I are not getting any sleep. Basically since last Thursday night. I forced myself to go to the gym on Friday, that was great! But yesterday (Sat) and today (Sun) I’ve felt like total crap so I didn’t go to the gym. I am SO looking forward to tomorrow morning and hitting the cardio…and maybe a good shoulder/Lat/trap workout.

great workout today

March 12, 2009

Wow! Awesome workout today. I’m def gonna feel this one. It was one of those days when you don’t feel like going, but when you get the blood moving you’re glad you did. That just energizes you to do more and more, but I held to the plan. Man I feel great! Anyway…back to work I go.

03-08-09

March 8, 2009

Well yesterday was a good upper body workout. I can sure feel it today. Still a bit noodley.

I’m down in the last month from 310 to 304 this morning. So 6 lbs in a month…not as much as I wanted, but still headed in the right direction. Stay at this pace and I’ll be at my 200 mark in about 16 months. Gotta pick up the pace.

Welcome!

March 6, 2009

Well here it is, my very first blog ever. I know you’re impressed. ;o)
My wife and I have come to the conclusion that we’re disgusted with our state of health and well being…I’m 46 next week, she’s 39 next week. We decided, one month ago today actually, that we would get off our a$$es and join a gym. So far so good! I’m getting 30-40 minutes 5 days a week now on the elliptical or cross trainer and added some weight machines to help drive the fat burn. The LBs are not not going away as fast as I want, but the measurements are coming down nicely. I’m looking forward to really jacking up the weights starting soon. I have a long way to go, but dammit I’m going to try or die.

About 6 years ago I got me some cancer going on and ended up with surgery and radiation treatments. Since then I’ve pretty much turned into a bag of cottage cheese. I’m fully recovered and in remission so I have no excuses not to get moving. It was a pretty scary time of my life and not something that I’d wish upon anyone. I know I was in a pretty bad funk and had no desire or whatever to workout. I have to say it started probably 10 years before the cancer came around. Long story short I’ve put on 125 lbs in the last 16 years. Went from this really intense "weight free" workout and riding my bike 15 miles a day, playing my drums for 1.5-2 hours a day and playing pretty much whatever sport came around, to playing my drums for an hour 4X a month and not hardly touching my bike, and not playing any sports cuz I’m never invited…since I’m such a fat a$$. I think they’re all scared I’ll have a heart attack or something. Don’t blame them actually.

Another trigger to get moving was when a buddy asked if I could help him pick up a new couch (I’m the friend with the pickup truck). I said sure. We go get to get it, the warehouse guys load it up. Then driving back, he calls his brother to come over and help him unload it because he didn’t want me to carry it. WTF??? So I got to sit in the kitchen and talk to his mom while they moved the old couch up to the rec room and then move the new one in. Sigh. I was pretty bummed about his thinking that day…along with my state of mind.
Is this what a blog’s for? To vent? ;o)

Peace, - DakotaJay
