Time to take it easy.

Monday, June 29th, 2009

Qtr end is hitting at work. Life in general is quite busy, so I booked a massage. It’s so much more enjoyable when I can use it for general relaxation instead of working out a pulled muscle.

Just a reminder to keep your favorite massage therapist is business and make time to just relax.

I did sneak in a good chest workout this morning and was surprised that I actually got through my usual afterwork session at 6am.

I also cooked a kicking dinner; scallops, potatoes, squash, and musrooms all slow simmered. Yummo! I don’t watch Rachel Ray, just work with her fan club.

Getting back in the grind, I actually did take 4 days in a row off.

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

Amazing how when you get in the groove, it becomes a big challenge to stay away from the iron. It kinda helped that the Dave Matthews Band came to BURGettstown last weekend and that I’ve been wasting time with meetings about my team for next season. I did make it back and hit up mostly lunch time weights this week. It was too hot and humid this week to take a 40 minute walk with the earbuds in at lunch so I hit the chest and shoulders at the gym on Thurs-Fri. Yesterday I made it through a quick back workout so legs are left for this morning, before I go off to watch the USA Brasil game.

Amazing the level of effort this morning displayed by the Rep of South Africa and Spain this morning. I always find it interesting to see who really wants to own the third place designation. I hate watching that ball move the way it does.  Being a keeper I think the balls today move way more than they did back when I was playing regularly.

Off to do legs in a bit. I need to take it easy going up to Wednesday as I’ll be starting weekly pick up games and actually trying to play with my team. That will be my true leg workout for the week.

Then the rains came.

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

My really cool gym with the really motivated people is closed due to abnormal rains on Wednesday, that put them under water. I’m left with working out at my YMCA. Don’t get me wrong it’s a cool, place but between the Silver Sneakers and the not so certain work out people it’s not my inspriational location.

Thanks to all this I decided it’s time for that week of rest, no weights for the next 5 days! I need to relax, soccer  season is done for the next 6 weeks so no practices, games, parents asking about why their star striker kid is being made to play defense or in goal and no trying to kick a ball and hurt my leg any more.

It is also that time of year where I’m in need of sitting on the couch a little bit and just relaxing.

I’ll stick to good eating and at least 45 minutes of cardio this week.

Redemption song. . . .I get to shave.

As a coach of a youth team and a dedicated member to the iron it is nice to see the perserverence pay off this year for the Penguins. I’ve fit my workouts in for the past two months around going to games at the Igloo and watching every one of the 16 wins that brought the cup back to Pittsburgh. I’ve even scheduled my soccer teams practices around when I had tickets. In all I love it when the effort and hard work pay off in the end.

I now no longer have the crazy beard going! Off to do the back then coach my kids in their last game!

The quest for the cup continues. I hate fair weather fans.

Sunday, June 7th, 2009

I’m bummed this morning. I never expected to see my favorite hockey team lose 5-0. I never expected to see the two refs pretty much hand the game to Detroit once they got ahead. I’m still amazed at how easily Holms-with the big buttocks gets it into our goalies face. Oh and I hate Journey. I must say I definitely think NBC needs to quit being idiots and let the crazy fair weather fans party outside the Igloo. I mean how many chances do people in Pittsburgh get to party in the summer. If another friend of mine who doesn’t understand hockey and only gets excited calls saying that the Penguins are done, I may have to continue ignoring calls. If I keep that up long enough I could probably work for then NHL.

OK now that my mental state is explained. I had to take this Friday off since my body just needed it. I only did cardio Friday morning and then again Saturday. I had a new spinning instructor and I found myself checking my heart rate monitor a little more than usual. I also decided to play in my coaches game which was a little mistake. I tried kicking one time too many with my right leg, with my functional brace to protect my new graf, however the brace tends to put more force on my adductor. Needless to say I ended up last night with the ibuprofen and ice on my upper thigh while watching Detroit party like rock stars.

This week was pretty good. I made it up to Fenway to see DMB, actually bump shoulders with Dave. Workout at Hockomock YMCA near Bellingham. Catch game 3 of the Stanley Cup and cheer my team on to a win. I even got to see GOMEZ live. They are always a lot of fun. However I must say Pittsburgh’s concert scene is a bit lame.

Anyhow off to do my chest and then coach my kids.
