Approaching the three month mark.

Monday, February 16th, 2009

I’m thinking it’s time for the week off. My energy levels have pretty much dropped. My body is sore everywhere. I’ve moved the entire upper body workout back to barbell and dumbbells vs the conservative machine approach since I wanted to limit my compound movements when just loading up the bar. Needless to say my chest/back/arms all need a break. This is good though because I need to take some time to focus on running instead of walking and hitting up the cardio machines.

Here’s the real catch. Work has been crazy lots of dynamic opportunities with lots of running around lately. I’ve kind of backburnered some of my side projects, but need to get back to them. This summer my building is going completely tobacco free. Including the parking lots and entire grounds. I’m in the process of setting up other wellness intiatives while promoting this plan, should be fun.

Clipping right along.

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

This week is clipping right along. I’m excited because this is my first slow week in the past three. I have several nights free just to get the evening cardio in, take a yoga class, cram a spin class in, partake in a drum circle, and even chop up some veggies for a homemade tortilla soup. Damn, that planning part for the food is aways the toughest.

I’ve been hitting the ice for the knee. Just now approaching 12 weeks post op and the environmental changes are playing a bit of havoc on my knee. I’m ramping up the workouts and making the cardio longer, but the temp. fluctuations are adding to my swelling at the end of the day.

Ice as always is my friend.

Anyhow, my new resolution for the week is to watch anything at my gym other than news. I’m not sure who always puts Fox News on in the morning but it is anything but conducive to a good workout. Too much hate pulling stories.

Oops forgot to mention a major protocol point.

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

No more PT for me. After seeing my Ortho last Monday at roughly the 9 week point, he gave me the option to continue with therapy or follow the rehab on my own. Don’t get me wrong, my therapist was great, the stim really helped with getting my outer quad to fire since I’m limited with items I can do in the gym, since the graph still needs time to start growing on its own now. The game plan is to hit the legs hard every third day. Do the proprioception stuff every other day, add a yoga class once a week, and stretch each morning and after cardio.

I’m still forced to coach soccer from the sidelines without demonstrating and that drives me crazy.

Anyhow, just taking some time to ice my knee down now, after cramping into the hockey arena with my brace on for 4 hours, I’m a little puffy in the joint.
