I have really been lazy about keeping this blog updated. I keep a written workout journal so sometimes this feels a little redundant. Nonetheless, today I worked legs. I warmed up with a 4 minute brisk walk 12 minute jog 2 minute brisk and 2 minute cool down. It was a light weight high repetition day. My workout consisted of one legged squats, steps ups, leg extensions for quads. For hammies it was all about stiff legged deadlift, seated leg curls and leg kickbacks. To top it off I did 4 sets of walking lunges. My calves are one of my problem areas. I burned them out with weighted standing calve raises and seated raises. I ended my legs workout with 20 minutes of slow stair climbing on level 5 and kickbacks on level 3. My legs were definitely shaking!!
I really have been selling myself short in the past by not stretching enough. Today I took 10 full minutes to do some deep stretching. I’m also trying to work on increasing my flexibility so if anyone has any tips, I would love to hear them.

My day in the gym was nothing exciting because well…it was cardio day. I like cardio when I can run but I have cut back my running to just 2 days a week so that I can build more muscle in my legs. Today wasn’t a running day unfortunately. It was a stairmill and elliptical day. I don’t mind the stairmill because I do my fancy little routine on it, kickbacks, knee ups, skip every other step..just to keep it interesting. But I do hate the elliptical. I did a mere 40 minutes, 20 on each machine and completed the last 10 minutes with a killer ab routine.
I can really feel my abs getting stronger. I did straight leg raises in the captain chair. I normally do 4 sets of 12 but I was able to do 20 reps my first set and 15 reps for the last 3 sets. Boy were my abs burning!!! I make sure I do those straight leg raises really slow and controlled and put the mind in the muscle. Had a great workout!! My gym is closing for renovation for a week which sucks because the closest gym is 20 minutes away. I think I will use that week for a much needed active rest and make sure my diet is top notch, no cheats.

Before I hit the gym this morning I had downloaded a few new songs to my ipod and switched up the order of my playlist. I have to do this bi-weekly because music is important for me at the gym. The music at my gym SUCKS!! I mean really, who wants to workout to slow contemporary music?? Well let me not be so presumptuous…I’m sure someone does. Nonetheless, I was so motivated for my arms/shoulders workout today. I got into a set of dumbell curls and SNAP!!! My damn ipod armband popped!! OMG!! How irritating. But I had to look at it this way….must have been the pump that made that baby snap. I was curling 20lbs dumbells by the way….same as the GUY next to me!! HA!!
Seriously, despite the fact I had to listen to ballroom music in the gym because my armband snapped, I got a real good pump today and I can see my arms getting more defined. I’ve also been working on my dips using just my body weight and I’m up to 3 sets of 15. In the next few weeks I want to start using a light weight for resistence. But I am definitely feeling stronger. Can’t wait until tomorow’s workout!!

I’ve been working out consistently for over a year and a half and I feel great. I’m content with my progress but there are areas I would like to improve. I want pro results so I know that means I will have to be more dedicated to better dieting and training. It’s time to get serious and put my game face on. Next summer I will be sporting a rockin’ hot body that I will be satisfied with.
