Fifty!

Last year was 149 and this year I weighed 201. For a second. :)

No pics because, hey, this isn’t about my appearance at the moment but rather the fact that this is the first I’ve ever tipped the scales at 200 pounds. Okay, 201 with the socks.

Last year I turned 45 years old and went on a cut, dropping from 180 or so down to 149 lbs.

That number was illusory at best because I was dehydrated, I had just completed my second cardio session for the day, had shaved all my body hair, clipped all the nails there were to clip, and stepped on the scale with a completely (or pretty darned close) empty stomach.

Yesterday I stepped on the scale and it read 199.5 lbs. I drank about 16 ounces of water mixed with a scoop of Gaspari Nutrition’s SizeOn and got back on the scale to weigh 201. That’s at least fifty pounds of weight gain in less than one year.

Certainly it’s not all muscle. HA! Definitely not. But it is a thrill to see that number pop up on the scale. I can remember the nurse weighing us in elementary school. The numbers 97, 136, and 145 were some of the pre-teen numbers I remember. When I first touched a weight (a vinyl-covered concrete Sears & Roebuck set) I weighed all of 150 lbs. And that number is why I had set my goal at 149: To reduce to my 15-year-old weight.

I was skinny-fat at 45, but was able to drop the fat using a diet recommended in one of Ellington Darden’s books: The New High Intensity Training

During the past year by using the eat-like-it’s-my-job strategy in combination with a low volume workout designed by Jason Ferruggia, I’ve been able to jump my bodyweight up to beyond 200. Sure, I could drop a few inches from my waistline, but I’m definitely happy with the weight gain.

What are your goals?

Congrats! Weight gain can be as difficult as weight loss sometimes. I lost a lot, now I"m trying to bulk and it is tough to put it back on. Good job!

Big Jeff and Vermont Dad, thank you both for the visit and the congrats. I starved down to 149 and then almost immediately bounced back to 165, but the past 35 lbs. has been some hard work in the gym and plenty of F-O-O-D! :)
