It was fabulous. I visited my youngest brother (whose birthday is the day before mine) and we spent the evening at a local karaoke night "acting the fool". One Coke and numerous ice waters proved to me that fun can definitely be had without alcohol.
Karaoke is typically about drunk people who can’t sing a lick, however this place had a ton of talent. I butchered "My Sharona" and a Metallica song.
It was a younger crowd overall but there were a few there in my age bracket. Regardless, young and old alike seemed to have a fantastic time.

OH!!! HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!!! Too bad I missed the real day. :-( Sounds like you really enjoyed yourself on your birthday–karaoke sober, yikes! :-) Now that takes guts!

While I don’t consider myself as someone with a problem with alcohol, I’m definitely not missing the expense, empty calories, or "leanovers" (what urbandictionary.com calls a mild hangover) at all!

Pix and mhelarn, thank you so much! It was fantastic and, yeah, I could have done worse on the Metallica song. It was "Wherever I May Roam" which is definitely one of my favorites.
