Weekend

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

What a fun weekend! Friday I had lunch with my Mom at a new Thai place and man was it good! I went to the jeweler and ran a few other errands. On the way out of town, I tried the CF affiliate..again..but no one was there so I got a number to call. I’m beginning to think maybe it’s not a very active affiliate..I’ve been there 3 times now and the last time they posted the WOD was June 3rd. Saturday, my friend Christy, and I went to the lake. We did the trail around the lake first and then swam and floated. It was alot of fun! That evening was the UF finale and my guy won!!! Way to go Amir! I liked Amir but honestly, I would’ve have been rooting for any one fighting CB Dollaway. It was very satisfying to see him get beat the exact same way he lost to Amir the first time and in less time..you just can’t leave those arms hanging down there like that and not expect to get them in an arm bar! Sunday, besides dishes, laundry, sweeping and vaccuming…I did pretty much nothing.  It was a CF rest day and really needed the rest. This morning I ran 5K for CF. I don’t like running much and this morning I realized that I’m probably not doing it very well. It’s hard to explain but I feel like I’m wasting energy somehow going up and down instead of propelling forward. My youngest sons girlfriend is captain of the HS cross country team so maybe I’ll have her teach me how to run. Seems like that should be something intrinsic to everyone but well see. (:

50 sit ups

50 double unders

50 situps

50 walking lunges

50 sit ups

50 burpees

50 situps

I was doing SO good until I got to the 50 burpees. My time was a little over 6 minutes and those suckers killed me!!! I finished with 17:34. The double unders were subbed with tuck jumps because I haven’t gotten those down yet.

3 Things my Dad Taught me

Saturday, June 14th, 2008

My Dad taught me alot of things growing up but 3 really stand out in my mind.

1. Work hard!

My Dad worked a full time night shift job and went to college full time to earn his Masters degree! All the while, he had 3 small daughters and responsibilities at home that he never slacked on. Dad always encouraged us to work and at 13 I got my first job. He encouraged us to get an education and a career so that we never HAD to depend on anyone else.  My Dad is now retired and still runs a full farm with 3 very large gardens! I rarely saw my Dad sit around and watch TV..unless the Hogs were playing! (:

2. Give Hard!

My Dad taught me to work hard, earn my own money and NEVER keep all of it! Not only did he tithe at church but he was always willing to give to others in need. I can’t tell you all the times my Father recognized a need and then went out of his way to take care of it. He was an education administrator and I know there were many times that families in his district recieved clothing, meals or money anonymously. He still works the polls and homeless shelter every week. My Dad taught me to not be self-centered and to always recognize AND act when I saw a need.

3. Play Hard!

My Dad was the biggest kid, I have so many great memories of snow balls fights and sledding, fireworks on the 4th, wrestling matches, basketball games and getting scared at every slumber party that my sisters and I ever had!! My Dad still spends time with all his kids. He took me to an Iris farm last week, because we both love to garden. We go every year and Dad buys me 10 new iris colors. I like getting the new flowers but most of all I enjoy the time I get to spend with my Dad and the fact that I know that is my Dads way of saying "I love you".

HAPPY FATHERS DAY TO ALL THE DAD’S ON BODYSPACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GR8 work out week!!

Saturday, June 14th, 2008

I started off the week with a great mountain bike ride with a group of friends, 11 miles of just fun riding. Monday I did CF, Tuesday I did CF; which was officially a rest day but I knew I would be working 12 hours in the ER on Wed, Thursday I did CF. I did the deadlift WOD: 3 lifts of max wt. for 5 sets. Then Friday, Martin, My hubby, and I hit the mountain bike trails!!!! (: Today we did CFish stuff. I did 400 m run, 5 pull ups, 10 push ups, 15 dips for 5 rounds. And he did jump rope and some push ups and TRIED to out run me!! It has been really nice to have him working out with me more, especially since I know with his work schedule, that it is difficult to get one spare moment. We are both in the medical field and even though my job is demanding…his is even more so because he is on call also.

Food diary

Monday, June 9th, 2008

I hardly ever blog about my food intake because…well, it’s the part I don’t like about a healthy lifestyles. It’s boring and it’s all about sacrifice. I don’t like to use the word "diet" because it has so many negetive connotations for most people. Exercising is fun and exciting and the pay off is pretty immediate. Anyway..my food diary from yesterday.

1 whole egg, 4 whites, dry whole wheat toast, 1/2 sweet potato

1/4 slice cantaloupe, 1 scoop whey, 1 scoop casien, 2 flax seed caps

Grilled salmon, large salad,

1 scoop whey, 1 scoop casien, Roma tomato with olive oil and pepper,

Steak, mixed vegetables, flax seed caps

1 scoop casien, Activa vanilla yogurt

No WOD 4 me!!

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

I was really excited when I got up this morning and read the Crossfit  WOD..12 burpees and 12 pull ups-10 rounds for time. My plan was to go on a mt. bike ride this AM and then do the WOD later this evening. So we rode our 11 miles in the sweltering Okiehoma heat. It was a great ride!! So I got home and ate, cleaned me , cleaned the bike, went to the car wash to clean the car and my arms were so tired..holding the wand was a chore. I thought maybe after some rest and carbs, I might come around..but I admit defeat!! I am whooped. So tomorrow look out burpees and pull ups!!!!

Blog Entry

Friday, June 6th, 2008

After doing my all leg work out, I was just praying for no legs the next day. I was pretty disappointed to see Cindy on steroids on the CF home page. Cindy on steroids is 15 pull ups, 30 push ups and 45 squats doing as many rounds as possible in 20 minutes. Had it not been for Docdru’s motivation I would have only got 2 rounds but I barely eeked out 3! So, again the next day hoping for no legs….and they come up with back squats 5-5. WOW! I made it through but probably not as well as I could have without the tired sore legs. Today was a rest day but since CF encourages participation in all kinds of sports outside of the WOD, I did a little running and sprinting. Hopefully, I’ll get to mountain bike this weekend. (:

Wednesday night is always fight night, we watch the UFC re-runs and then watch the Ultimate Fighter show. Which means there are a bunch of rowdy teenagers at the house. That evening about 2 am my 70 foot Tulip tree broke and luckily fell away from the house and away from all the extra cars in the driveway but it looks like the tree isn’t going to be salvagable and it just makes me sick. ): So all day Thursday was spent cleaning up limbs and trimming trees and where were the teenages boys then!! Never fails.

Yep, something’s definitely happenin’

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

Today was a rest day for most CFer’s but even after running the last 2 nights and my 3 days of WOD, I had to make myself rest. This morning I weighed myself and I’ve 3 pounds! I’m not really trying to lose weight but if it keeps up I can always up my hot fudge intake. (: Another benefit is the gain in strength in pull ups, push ups, deads, squats, which is exciting. And my energy level has definitely increased!!

Cindy with a twist

Sunday, June 1st, 2008

Yesterday I did the CF WOD early and then I ran and did bleachers yesterday evening. I had plans to hit a mountain biking trail or rock climb but the weather didn’t hold up. Today’s WOD was 135# cleans and GH sit ups. My gym is closed on Sunday and I don’t have the equipment here so I subbed Cindy and added a little twist. Cindy is 5 pull ups, 10 push ups and 15 squats for 20 minutes accumulating as sets as you can. The twist was 20 situps. It was the coolest thing..about the time I got ready to start the storms started blowing in so it was like mother nature meeting a force of nature. Tomorrow will be a rest day and I’m thinking about checking out an affilite in a nearby town to see if maybe there are some other women CFing that I can hook up with and learn from. I gotta learn how to kip!!
