I’M SO FREAKIN’ CONFUSED!!!!!!!!
All I really want is one very simple answer concerning what type of cardio is best! This morning I read an article about HIT and an hour later read a blog about low intensity 45 minute cardio being the best, then I hear on the tube that doing spurts of cardio here and there during the day is just as effective as other cardio. I mean do you do it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, before weights, after weights, high intensity, low intensity, HIT, interval, spurts?? AAAAAAH! All this thinking is too much work! Does it count as cardio??

I’m afraid you’re probably not going to find a simple answer… There are people who swear by low intensity and probably an equal number who swear by high intensity. The best advice I can probably give is to try both…see what you like better, and more importantly see what you get the best results from.

I think this one is similar in spirit to your last blog about switching things up on your legs and confusing them a bit. Both HIIT and longer cardio are good, but they are most effective in combination. Your body will get used to longer cardio workouts, and HIIT is a good way to shock the metabolism. Simiilarly, if you do HIIT all the time, your body will adjust to the energy requirements of shorter bursts of effort and not significant dip into reserves of fat (not that you have any - you look fantastic). I think switching between the two will give you most bang for your cardio buck.

seriously, a combo of HIIT (i have heard no more than 2x/week??) and then a foundation cardio session (more steady/constant pace) works really well.. of course, what do i know.. i’m just a crazy out of my mind triathlete
