Amazing, working in a hospital I’m exposed to sick people practically all day. Many exhibiting flu symptoms. The more I speak with people about the "threat" of H1N1, the more I’m convinced that anyone willing to spend a minimum of THREE DAYS A WEEK working out, would cut their vulnerability of getting sick by AT LEAST 30%. It’s the BEST preventive medicine there is!!!

Football, colors and cooler temperatures (great sleeping weather)! I always find myself getting "fired up" this time of year. My motivation for workouts feels as if it’s at peak. Did four miles cardio today following my upper body work. Came home feeling good. But like everything else in life, there’s always a catch. My appetite is veracious! For the past two weeks, I’ve consumed 50% more calories per week. I’ve picked up a couple of pounds, but perhaps my body needs it. We’ll see……..

After two weeks vacation and ALOT of biking, time to get back into the "routine". Started again on Tuesday with my usual upper body workout, fortunately with no problems (a little slower perhaps). By the next day, it had felt like I hadn’t missed a beat. Good to be back!!

Been away from the gym since August 9th. Somewhat concerned about having some sort of fitness program while at the beach. Once I got here, I discovered most of the residents here commute via bicycle. Since getting here last Monday, I’ve averaged 5-7 miles/day biking throughout the city and to the beach. Looking forward to getting back to the gym though…..

Well, It’s been over a month since my last entry. I’ve finally adjusted to this new routine I’ve developed. It seems to be working well, allowing more "rest time" for each mucle group. I’ve also put on some weight which suprisingly, feels pretty good. For the first time, I actually feel like I’m gaining significant muscle mass. As a "side note", last week I was approached by my 12 Y.O. son, who asked if he could start going to the gym with me to workout. I have to admit, It was one of my proudest moments as a Dad.

This week (March 23-29) I’ve taken a break from my lifting regimen. This week is cardio ONLY. I’ve been using the eliptical trainer for 45min per day (Interval course, level #4). I’m still designing a new lifting routine when I resume next week.

Well, I finally got my teeth fixed and feel fully recovered. I’m currently approaching the 3-month period of my current workout regimen. Despite my minor setback (teeth), I feel like i’ve made some moderate progress. Over the next couple of weeks, I plan to design a new routine in the hopes of avoiding any type of plateu. I’ve also noticed a "mild" ache in my right wrist and lower forearm, which has caused me to suspend my concentration curl routine.
I’m giving some thought to entering the hammer throw competition in the Ohio Scottish Games scheduled for late June of 2008. The more I think about it, the more it serves as a catalyst for me to stay focused on my workout regimen!!

Had a good workout this past Sunday. Went to SuperBowl party at my buddy’s house. Cooked ribs, had a few cold ones, saw a pretty good game. My good week ended there. Woke up Monday with a "minor" toothache. By Tuesday, I couldn’t eat. Called the dentist, he started on antibiotics. They kicked my butt! Fatigue, no energy. I went to the gym twice, did some limited cardio and leg work. Finally got to the dentst Friday. He tells me I need TWO root canals!! I still taking the antibiotics. It’s going to be a LONG next couple of weeks………

Stated a cycle of Creatine today. 5gms pre/post WO. I plan to take it for the next 6-8 weeks. While doing my upper body routne today, I attempted to start 1-2 sets of seated incline curls. It looks like I’m going to have to reduce the weight to maintain proper form. I’m going to experiment with it more this weekend (before the Super Bowl kicks off!!).

It’s been about three weeks now since I’ve begun this new lifting regimen. So far, I’m pretty happy with the way things have gone. I’m still continuing to make some minor adjustments. In addition to my lifting/workouts, I’ve also been putting a bit more focus on my diet. I’m currently putting more efffort into minimizing breads from my diet, thus avoiding any type of "sandwich" which was routine for lunch. For what it’s worth, I find it to be motivating!!
