My problems with Benchers….

August 15, 2007

What I do worry about is the constant going heavy. In order to have the shoulder in better health years from now, do some different, and lighter weight routines now and again. What I hear from most guys who are now in their 40’s, 50’s that did heavy bench for years, is that they have a bad shoulder, or two as a result. They never went light weight. You can make lot of gains from going with a lighter weight, say 70% max, and doing your 10-12 reps. Once you have a rep where your momentum or rhythm is significantly slowed, You have probably just done your last rep. Never push for more than 2 reps beyond your desired rep goal for that set, unless you have a spotter. For me, once I feel like I just hit that last one, or I am not sure if i can get it without screaming for help, I rack it. Every rep you should be able to do on your own. A spotter is only there to ensure you keep the weight moving and keep you psyched. Teaching your muscles to fail all the time teaches them how to fail. Not how to push through it.

I just think that people, males especially need to leave the ego at the door. Too many guys wanna just do bench and push big weight, regardless of form or efficiency. Fact is, If you can leave your ego at the door, then that is when you get a good workout, and that is when you see results.

Obesity In America……

August 6, 2007

It sickens me to think not only how unhealthy what most of what we call "civilized" people, from "civilized" nations" and how they eat, but the fact that governments don’t care. Quite frankly, considering what sort of profiteering monster the government is, if they put restrictions on dieting and stuff, and how much corn products are in foods these days, made exercise mandatory etc, put PE back in schools, they could make a ton of money off of the whole deal. If people are healthier, they live longer, so they pay more in taxes number one. They are driving more, and buying more products, so there is allot more taxes. They consume more alcohol; theres more taxes…its a win-win situation, healthier people, more money for the government. Government also gets better health ratings too. The only aspect of the economy that hurts is insurance companies, since people are healthier, their premiums go down…Besides, do we really care about big business, since its little business that makes the economy run? Funeral business would be fine, as we all die sooner or later.

I know that this is a lot of rambling, but I hate seeing so many out of shape people. People coming up with diabetes. People suddenly needing blood pressure medication. When a lot of that can be controlled by a good diet and even moderate physical activity. It does not have to be exercise per say, just something vigorous enough to work up a sweat and maintain it for at least 20 min. Our bodies were built to be physical. They are meant for work. Not sitting around and driving everywhere. Now there is some food for thought.

Im done at the YMCA

August 1, 2007

So after two years with the YMCA of Greater Kansas City, I have decided to resign. I was an up and comer within the company, but there have been many things that have prompted my departure. Aside from issues of being told I wasn’t doing my job, yet I was Staff Lead. My only responsibility as Staff Lead was taken away. I have been their best trainer over the last couple years and they had been looking to move me up to Health and Wellness Director.

When I applied for that, they removed the position and just restructured the company. Then my boss confronted me on the fitness floor no less instead of going to the back office to discuss issues. All my issues I have discussed with him before and never hid anything from him. Over the last month he has hired two more people, which only means that hours will be cut, when I am the only one out of school and need to pay my loans. Everyone else is still in school. Needless to say, it quickly became heated and I couldn’t get backed into a corner anymore, being accused of things on hearsay instead of actually looking into it to see if I did my job etc.

Its ok though, after I told my boss I quit, I then typed my letter of resignation. Monday, before my last shift (that Thursday), my boss decided to remove me earlier than my letter of resignation. Im off to bigger and better things now…

Dirty Gyms

July 21, 2007

I really cant stand dirty gyms. Now I understand that its not meant to be perfectly clean, but people need to put their weights away in the proper place and clean up after themselves. I find that I suffer from free weight seperation anxiety as a result. Yes this is a real condition. You know what im talking about. You go to find a weight and cant find it, or that 10 pound plate is burried by 45’s. Put your crap away in the correct place PLEASE

 Thank you.

Sports Conditioning Camp

July 20, 2007

So many of you who know me or have actually read my profile, know that I am a personal trainer. Many of you also know that I have some rather extensive athletic conditioning experience. Well now some of that gets to continue. I have been riding my boss about letting me put together a conditioning camp for local athletes. Well it took him until 2 weeks before the camp was to start to actually give me the go ahead. He said he wanted at least 10 kids registered so we could run it. Well 3 days before the camp, we had 5 signed up, by Saturday we had 6, then Sunday we had 8, Monday just before we had 9, that meant we could still give it a go. Now, through word of mouth, we added 4 more this week and up to 13 kids! They are working hard and getting better. I have a feeling that we will be able to do this again soon. But we still have one more week to go! 10 more hours of training left! Two of those hours, one Monday and one Friday will be spent in the pool. Mondays pool workout was a result of their hard work on day 5. Friday was already planned as a chance to just have some fun

Hopefully a few more kids sign up!

Scott Donald is at it again…

July 17, 2007

I know I have discussed Mr. Donalds behavior with you before. Well he is at his antics yet again. First off, He changed my forum signature. Then he posts a negative comment to several of my posts, where people have been asking me, a certified personal trainer (BA, NASM, ACE, NSCA). To top that off, he decided to give me a negative rep, simply because he doesn’t agree with what I posted about high rep calf training, as part of a vertical leap training program. I have trained, collegiate Conference and National Champions and have two professional athletes that I have worked with as well. I know what I am talking about. I tried to resolve this with Mr. Donald, and no luck. FYI, that negative rep power point took me from +230 down to -83474. Im never gonna build it back up again. This is ridiculous. Bodybuilding.com needs to do a better job with controlling their moderators.

Optimum Nutrition Melatonin

July 12, 2007

I thought that since lately I have had problems getting to sleep lately, given all the stress I am under, I would try something to help. And so far, its really helped. I notice myself getting super sleepy within like 20 min. So far the product is worth it. That said, since I get to sleep sooner, and deeper, I notice im feeling better in the mornings. Which means my body is healing itself. Great product so far after a week of use

I WAS BANNED

July 7, 2007

Ya, for a reason as full of crap as the moderator that did it. If any of you are familiar with Scott Donald, he is a truely vindictave ass. But that aside, let me tell you why.

I posted a thread in the forum letting members ask me questions. I have seen many do this, with no problems at all. But he thought otherwise. Scott closed what was turning out to be a very hot thread. So i asked him about it, he said that it was against the rules. I said that was BS and honestly that anything he posts is just about himself and how much he says he can lift, which, if you have seen his pics, are all lies. I feel that he abuses his power as a moderator.

So I then started another thread, same line of questioning. Keep in mind that a former member of the month heyzeus did the same thing, without having his thread closed. Same with lots of other people. I am a personal trainer, specializing in athletic strength and conditioning. Scott Donald again closed the thread and then banned me until 7-6-07 9am. That ban was not lifted. As soon as the ban came into effect I sent an email to admin, and to will@bodybuilding.com after a phone call with bb.com. Nothing happened. So I then emailed Ryan LeDuca, and for those of you that dont know, he is the CEO of bb.com. Great man actually. He quickly resolved the issue and lifted my ban and as far as I know is dealing with Scott Donald. What a rough week, I was actually having the time to do a thread and help people get faster, get stronger, jump higher. Its what I love to do. All Scott did was hinder those seeking advice and training tips from someone who played at a high level and has trained collegiate champions, and two professional athletes.

What a week it was though, hope yours was better!

2 GOALS HIT!

June 27, 2007

I am stoked, I hit two goals yesterday in my leg workout! I was able to hit 315 on squats and 800 on leg press. I know that I am lifting heavier on legs and have to say that I know that the knee wraps that I bought a few weeks ago really help psychologically. And in fact, I have less pain my knee as a result! Now, if I can just hit some of my other goals by the end of summer, Ill be happy about that.
