Refocused - A new beginning

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

As I stated in my last post, the last several years have been ruff health wise. Well they have been just as bad in the other parts of my life to some extent as well. I’m not saying "whoa is me" here. All in all I have a good life. I am just saying I have been burnt out for a while and lost focus on what I want. Even to the extent of thinking about leaving my chosen career field, that I truely loved. There has been no balance in my life and I have had trouble letting go and having fun. This has all led to the burnout that I stated earlier.

So on to positive things! I have finaly taken care of the medical issues that have plagued me and ready to continue to improve with increased efforts with exercise and nutrition. I think I have finaly learned to leave work at the office and create fun and balance in my life (though this is still a work in progress).

Also some exciting news for me, I have taken a new job. It is actually at a place that I used to work at. It feels like I am coming home and getting a second chance to do things the way I had originally planned. The job is at a physical therapy clinic that also has a fitness center attached to it. I’ll be working 4 -ten hour days, so I’ll have an extra day off to be with family, friends, and have fun. I can’t wait to start (will be towards the end of September)!

One final exciting bit of news, I have decided to return to school next fall and pursue my Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree. I know this will be a very intense program and take alot of effort, but I am finally focused and ready for the challenge.

So I challenge you all as well, take a look at you life. Is it balanced? Are you on track toward your goals? Or are you complacent and not stepping out of your comfort zone?

I wish you luck on all your goals! Please let me know how your progress is coming, I’ll try to check in with you all as soon as I can.

Low Test / New Exercise

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

I almost did not write this post at first, cause I thought it might embarrass me too much. But you all are my friends and this is part of my life.

So for the last 1 1/2 to 2 years I have felt like crap. Have had more injuries and health issues then I have ever. Could not figure out why I have not been making very much progress with exercise goals as well.

Finally several weeks ago I went to the doctor for a complete physical with blood work. Everything came back great, except that I had low testosterone. Once I got over the whole macho thing :) i was happy to finally find out what was going on. My levels were 124, the normal level is between 300 to 800.

So I have been on the replacement therapy for a week so far and I am already noticing some improvement. They say it will take a month to 3 months for full effect, I can’t wait! So glad to be feeling better though.

So on to todays workout, I been trying to throw in some variety:

Started with heavy bag 2 rounds of 2 minutes

Squat 3 x 20 (85#)

(I used a piece of homemade equipment, best if you stand on boxes so weight do not touch floor)

 squat

Iron Grip   1 hand hold on 2 1/4 handle for 15 count x 3

(I used the same weight and equipment as the squats)

Pushups  3×20

Bike and stretching  30 minutes

Till next time-

Keep striving for your best!

WOD #4

Saturday, August 9th, 2008

Todays workout left me feeling amazing, tired but great. I’m looking forwad to my next workout, reading Stormi’s blog (stormiorsini) has inspired me. I plan to incorporate the heavy bag into my routine. Pounding the crap out of the bag has always been a great stress reliever. Ok so enough chit chatting, here is todays workout:

I did a circuit, 4 rounds total (non-stop if possible):

1. Alternating squat and press with kettle bell    x 20 (10 each arm)

- squat down, as your coming back up press kettle bell overhead with 1 arm, squat and repeat with other arm.

2. push ups x10

3. modified pullups x10

- have bar racked in low position on squat rack, lay flat under it and pull up keeping heels on floor and body in a straight line.

Ok everyone keep writing those blogs, they never cease to inspire me!

Keep kicking butt!

Nice little workout

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008

Had a good little workout today.  It might not sound like much, but if you go all out it will have you panting at the end.

1) Warmup 10 min.

2) Power cleans  3×15

3) Non stop curcuit of Pushups and pullups on the TRX ( fitnessanywhere.com)

3×15

4) Cone drill (2 cones 15ft apart touch 1 cone then run as fast as you can to the next, back and forth)

3 sets

5) 5 min. cool down

I was breathing pretty heavy and sweating like a pig at the end, especially in this humid Ohio weather.
