Lifes Drives or What Drives Us
Many people erroneously believe that man is sex-driven or greed-driven. Yes, some people are. But that is not the fundamental drive of man. What is the fundamental drive of man? Happiness.
Rational human beings strive to be happy. They base their decisions on their implicit or explicit hierarchy of values. They do this in order to achieve their values. And when they achieve their values, they experience happiness.
To make sex or money the sole drive of one’s life is to severely limit oneself. Once one has more than enough sex or money, then what? Can one really maintain the drive and motivation needed to continue seeking a narrow?but important?aspect of life? Probably not. One will probably quit exerting high energy to get more of what one already has in abundance. But if one is driven to be happy, which requires achieving one’s self-chosen values, one will probably remain motivated to achieve and grow.
