Cheater Squats

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

I’m interested to know how many people actually do proper squats on this site. I look at peoples bodyspace and they have huge numbers on there squats. Now I’m not saying that the numbers can’t be right, because people can pull huge numbers in squats. It does seem like a lot of people don’t realize that they are not doing a full squat. I see pictures of people that don’t have proper footing to even be able to reach a full squat position.

To all those people that have a 150lb deadlift, and a 500lb squat, I’d like you to try something. With your legs shoulder width apart feet angled out at about a 35 degree angle, now try doing a heavy back squat with even half of what you say your max is, but this time I want you to go all the way down in the squat, ass to grass is a good term. I bet that max will drop significantly.

Like I say I don’t mean to be rude to anyone, if you use this technique you will build much more strength. Maybe it won’t impress people so much when you load up the bar, but you will have much greater gains, and the satisfaction of knowing that you are doing it properly.

405lbs Deadlift

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

Today I got a new personal record of 405lbs for deadlift! So ya I figured I should write about it. At Crossfit Kelowna, the max deadlift is held by the owner, it is 410lbs! I got him next time, he could not even match my 405lbs today!! haha Sweet! or should I say YEAAA BUDDY!!!  LIGHTWEIGHT!!

My Birthday

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

So it was my birthday yesterday, and last weekend we had a big camping shindig. Some how I managed to maintain my weight through all of the hot dogs and booze… Although I made it through that, I have to be able to maintain a better diet. This summer is full of lots of camping and fishing, I paddle my canoe for fishing so that kinda helps. But the camping I need to maintain my diet a bit better.

Anyway I had a great WOD made for me at Crossfit, and I am ready for another on Thursday. I achieved  a nine rep set of dips on my birthday, and I also got my first kipping pullup.

Upate

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

So I finally broke past 242 lbs, wow that took a while, but I have gained quite a bit of strength as well. I think that it has been the biking to work that ultimately burned those extra calories to get past that evil number. Anyway I am finally 241.5 lbs but I think this week I might be able to drop a bit more!!!

Crossfit has been going very good as well. I have been going three days a week and get wrecked every time. A few accomplishments for me have been getting eight dips in one set, yesterday I got a new PR on dead lift of 335lbs (3 Reps).

I am still waiting for that endurance to come to me, I think that I have improved but I won’t know for sure until I do my baseline again.

I will be doing my measurements again soon to see if I am actually losing some fat probably next week. that will be one month of crossfit.

Rough week ahead.

Monday, May 4th, 2009

I hope I can sustain my current level of fitness through this storm of events this week! My week is as follows;

Monday - Crossfit

Tuesday - Golf & buffet Dinner

Wednesday -  Restaurant Dinner and Entertainment

Thursday - Awards Banquet Dinner

Friday - Crossfit

Saturday - Crossfit

I think I have got it down! I just need to keep my diet in check through all those meals.
