It Saturday night and I’m sitting at home (lame) so I figured I’d write a little. I started working out with a trainer one day a week and I love it so much (the fact that he’s really hot doesn’t hurt either). I always thought I knew what I was doing and didn’t need someone to stand there and count for me, but I have totally changed my mind on this subject. Every workout we’re doing something new and he’s able to push me past my comfort level and really burn out my muscles. Love it, love it - and I have dropped 2% body fat since working with him.

hummm……so what is on my mind today. Guns. I was looking at this pic of Jamie Eason and she has the best arms. I was telling my workout buddies that I want to build up my arms and one said - you already have good arms. I’m not complaining about what I have. Actually, it’s just the opposite, the more improvement I start seeing the more I want to work that much harder to get better and better. It’s funny when people say things like that, instead of something like - ‘well your on the right track’. I guess once you hit perfection you can quit? I’ll have a beer waiting!

Ok I decided yesterday this is the summer I’m really going to work on my abs. To be honest I really don’t do a lot of ab exercises - but that is going to change. My abs are pretty flat now, but need some definition.

So I did an ocean swim race this last weekend, it’s an annual thing I do with some friends I’ve been swimming with for years. Some of us have moved away but we get together every year for the race. The weather was beautiful and the conditions were perfect! So of course after the race, had to celebrate, too much beer and food but hey, every now and then you need to celebrate those accomplishments in life. No worries - had a great workout today. Now I’m even more motivated to get my butt in the pool more often and work harder. Next race October…I’ll be ready!

Hit the gym hard today - did chest, back, and shoulders. Felt good. Also ran some sprints after work and did some gardening (actually pretty hard - had to pull up a ton of roots). Tomorrow I teach spin and then Wednesday I’ll be punishing my legs. I hope to get a swim in Wednesday evening, I have a race on Saturday - not as prepared as I’d like to be this year, spending more time lifting and less time swimming. Oh well, I’d love to do it all but I only have so much time and energy.

Ugh, so I just got back from a 3 day conference. Although it was fun and insightful I ate and drank way too much and didn’t exercise. Its probably good I only do to these things about once a year. I always tell myself before I go that I’m going to be good and use the hotel fitness center and not drink. Never happens. Just too much going on.
Oh well, not going to beat myself up about it, just get back on the right track. And isn’t a little break good once a while? let those muscles rest

So I was thinking recently about people who say they need to "start" working out. I find this odd. I guess I can’t remember a time in my life when I didn’t workout. Maybe at age 10. But even then my days were full of bike riding and "capture the flag". During middle school and high school I was all about sports and started lifting weights at age 16. I’ve always gone through different types of working out, sometimes swimming a lot, sometimes training for a running race, then there was my spin addiction, and always weight lifting. To me exercise is just a part of life and when I don’t do it, I’m not myself. So what does it mean to live a life without exercise? Why talk about "starting to workout" - why not just go do it today and everyday?
