Increase intake.

June 24, 2008

Yesterday I posted  blog about my frustration with my current (or lack their of) results. I couldn’t understand how after three weeks of daily cardio (45-70 mins) and weights four times a week, I could gain three pounds and increase size in my thighs. However, after too many hours of forum reading today, I have decided that maybe I need to increase my caloric intake. On an intense day (lets say monday), I normally hit the gym at 6am for 60 minutes of spinning. Then at 4pm, Im back for chest and triceps, following that with about 20 minutes on an elliptical. From what I have been reading, I might need to cycle my calories (esp.) on the more intense days to a higher number. I noticed a few members had the same problem and as soon as they increased calories, they dropped the added pounds. I’ve also decided to drop my carbs to 30% and see if I can’t maintain that for a while. My doctor was advising I increase my fat, rather then my protein to make up for the carb cut–fat being readily burned, where as protein has the ability to be metabolized as sugar?? I wasn’t sure as to whether or not I heard him correctly…. So, starting today I have a macro breakdown of 20/50/30… I’m thinking though, that this should be more of an 30/40/30…hmmm, I love trial and error..ha. Oh, and I should also mention that I have decided to reduce (gasp) my cardio, as I’m afraid Im just burning what Im gaining from lifting. So essentially, all of my cardio is just x-ing out the weight training.. if thats even possible.

Frustration.

June 23, 2008

It’s been 23 days since I started my "new" workout program and I’m not quite sure how I feel. I have days where Im pumped about my new found discipline and days where Im bummed about the lack of results. I keep thinking I need to seek out some sort of trainer to keep me from giving up, to encourage that it will just take time, but then I think about the new car sitting in the driveway and realize that’s not really an option right now (ha). Currently, I have been doing between 45-70 minutes of cardio daily, weights 4 days a week (afternoons), 6 mini-meals, and yet… I’ve gained 4 pounds and increased the size of each thigh. Seriously? However, I refuse to give up because there have been moments where I’ve noticed more definition (just a little, ha) throughout my arms, and I actually feel more solid. I have also increased the weight that I can lift on almost every exercise by about 10-15 pounds, so I feel like it is just going to take a little bit longer for my body to adjust. If only I could find a genie that would grant me three wishes….ha.
