13 minute workout!

Saturday, August 18th, 2007

I am 7 days away from the Florida State bodybuilding, figure, and fitness Championships and I’m absolutely SICK of doing cardio!  I am also way to close to competition to skip out on workouts, so I changed it up a bit this morning.  After doing 25 minutes of routine work (which is hell on low carbs), I taught my boot camp class (50 min of aerobic style resistance and bodyweight exercises), then I decided I still needed more:

8 sets of 5 cleans @ 60%max

THEN

5 sets of 5 snatch @ 70%max

30 seconds or less between exercises and 60 seconds between cleans and snatches.  Altogether it took 12 min 57 seconds.  Those last 3 sets felt like I was max-ing out!  My forearms were on fire!  I will go back later for 50 min on the stepper :-( but I think that was a great morning, considering I didn’t feel like doing ANYTHING when I woke up.

1 week out - my wierd taste buds

Friday, August 17th, 2007

Training has been pretty much the same so I won’t re-type my workouts from last week.  The only new thing is that I have been consistent with my 2 a day cardio since last Wednesday (YAY!!!)

Consistently being on a diet is draining enough but being broke and on a diet will cause you to do weird things.  In an effort to stay within my means and not go COMPLETELY insane eating the same thing day in and day out my latest delicacy has been:

4 - 6 oz chopped chicken

1/2 c chopped veggies (tomatoes, bell peppers)

1 c spinach

*microwave all that until the spinach is wilted then add yellow mustard and 1-2 packets of splenda

its really good! my mom says i have completely lost it, but hey, tough times….

RANT: how sad are we?

Friday, August 17th, 2007

Has the fitness industry become so big that it can resort to nonsense? Apparently so.  With so much of America out of shape and looking for a quick fix, people are putting anything ANYTHING on the market.  Case and point: the ropeless jump rope!  Are you eff-ing kidding me???!! I’m serious: www.jumpsnap.com …I don’t even know what else to say about this mess! LOL, its just sad

Preparing for Nationals - GREAT workout today!

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

If this type of workout doesn’t help me lean out then I don’t know what will!

300 yd shuttle run

1st run: 59 sec

2nd: 61 sec

3rd: 61 sec

5×5 cleans @ 70 lbs

3×5 snatch @ 70 lbs

Felt a little buttlock after the second 300.  Minimal rest between the lifts.  I took 3-5 minutes rest between the 300s.  It was my first time doing them so I have to get back into it.  I would like to get 3 of them at 60 sec with 2.5-3 minutes rest between them.

Feeling ok about my appearance right now, just need to tighten up more (as usual).  Headed back to the gym tonight for cardio.

AM workout - 23 days out

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

This morning was rough to say the least.  I have been sick for about a week now but I started my AM cardio yesterday and decided to do my workout this morning as well (weird work schedule today).  Here’s what I did:

Chest press - 1×50@40lbs 2×15@60lbsMountain Climbers (30 each leg) then 5 25 ft sprints (down and back is one) - 5 sets with 2 minutes rest in between

Cleans (an adaptation of "clean cardio http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/par37.htm) - 5 sets 5@80lbs with 30 seconds rest

Snatch - 3 sets 5@80lbs with 45 seconds rest

(NOW THAT WAS TOUGH!)

Almost threw up after the 4th set of cleans :-)

I know I said I wasn’t going to lift until next week but I figured its a great total body power exercise that is good for my routine and I was using light weights.  I think I will do that twice a week for my weights.  I’ll do 40-50 minutes of cardio before work tonight.

need some input on this muscle maturity thing…

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

copied and pasted from previous blog: I think I need to be around 107 to be as lean as I want to be.  I have been talking with different people about the whole "muscle maturity" thing.  It seems no matter how much I diet I won’t get lean enough simply because of muscle maturity (and the lack thereof - I’m only 22).  So what should I do?  Do I take time off from competing to train and get older?  Or do I keep going in spite of the soft look I am bound to have onstage (http://iajephoto.com/photocart/index.php?do=photocart&viewIma)

<4 months from Nationals - muscle maturity?

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

-2 lipo-6x capsules; 50 min treadmill 3.5 mph 6.5-12% incline

-1 multi-vitamin .5 c oatmeal; 4 oz chicken

-.5 c rice; 4 oz tilapia

-4×6 pull ups, (pedastal, bench jumps, 1-arm push-ups, leg raises) 10 each x 2 sets, 20 min stretching, 40 min stepper

-2 scoops green protein, 1 banana, 1 tbsp pb

-1 lipo 6x

-1 multi-vitamin 4 oz chicken; .5 c brocoli

-4 oz tilapia in salad

…I’m debating over doing more cardio this evening.  I weighed in at 112.4 lbs yesterday morning (~3 lbs heavier then I was at my last show).  I think I need to be around 107 to be as lean as I want to be.  I have been talking with different people about the whole "muscle maturity" thing.  It seems no matter how much I diet I won’t get lean enough simply because of muscle maturity (and the lack thereof - I’m only 22).  So what should I do?  Do I take time off from competing to train and get older?  Or do I keep going in spite of the soft look I am bound to have onstage (http://iajephoto.com/photocart/index.php?do=photocart&viewImage=113486)?
