Tough lesson learned
So some how I managed to have leg day on the same day as I run. Well it wasn’t a fun experince. I did legs around 2PM and ran around 8PM and my legs just about gave out on me. They cramped up like no other. I started out feeling them complain, but figured I’d run the pain out and they’d get into the grove after about a mile. Yeah, that didn’t happen. About the second mile they wanted to lock up and my shins were on fire. At that point I decided to take my ball and go home. Lesson learned, I’m keeping legs and running seperate from this point on

I wound up with leg day on running days for football in college. Running days were lots of rope drills and sprints, etc. Pulled a quad and was out for a month. I only do walking on leg days. It’s a lesson you only have to learn once thankfully! Good luck and keep up the hard work~!

No doubt. I have some extra issues with my legs that make it even worse. A couple years ago I snapped both my tib and fib in hockey, so now I have a rod and four screws in my left leg. For some reason the area of the break seems to get serious shin splint type pain when over worked. Not fun at all. I’m pretty much going to leave cardio as a whole out of my leg day training regime

Amen. Worst for me was when I was in school for massage and I didn’t pay attention to my syllabus for the night. Not only did I hit legs hard about 6 hours before class, but I also changed my routine that day so I had even more muscle shock. Class that night was Injury Massage on the thighs and knees. Yeah, not fun getting mostly dry, firm, friction based strokes! Just shows that planning ahead saves much suffering…

I only do recovery runs on leg day…but it took alot of training to reach a point where I could train my legs hard and still run.
