Commerce Team (Cheddah) presents Order Status Update
Our Commerce development team AKA (Cheddah) has finished up some great updates for you to view, re-order and track your previous and current orders.
As a valued customer you will now be able to see a pop-up message displaying what the different order status messages mean.
Below is an example.
You also have the ability to look at the items within and order, and re-order the specific items. You can view where the item was shipped from and who packed your order.
Who packed the order?
You can now also get basic order status with details using your basic order information without the need to login to the website.
Internal Twitter Watch
I was inspired by a presentation given at this months @techboise by Mesiab Labs and work from @anexemines. The guys did a great job presenting at TechBoise and have done a great job using http://tweetgrid.com/widget/ in their obamapath.com website.
I set out to build a simple internal tool with the concepts presented and using http://tweetgrid.com/widget/ to get user tweets up on our plasma screen in the lobby.
I built out a simple background, some simple styles inside the widget code from twittergrid, modified it for a wide screen TV and added in our logo + the tweet logo with a few filters and it was up and running in about 30 minutes.
The filter used were very simple - teenbodybuilding, bodyspace, bodybuilding.com, and a couple others and just like that we were watching our user tweets. How cool is that!
@jupitergrrlie - Congrats we are excited that you have made great progress.
@joshuapetry - glad the 12 week workout is rolling keep us updated in your bodyspace profile.
@Reversecrunch: keep up the great blog posts, that is an awesome fish man!
Be sure you follow http://www.twitter.com/bbdevteam andhttp://www.twitter.com/bodybuildingcom for updates.

Helping 7,543 members at one time
How do you help 7,543 BodySpace members at one time? Roll out a blog fix! We feel it's important to update our community about the fixes we are working on in our focus to help everyone with their goals. We were able to track down a bug that was effecting a number of users so we fixed it! BlueSheep and one of the Earl brothers worked on this today and it's been rolled out.
What would you have seen if you were effected? You would notice that when you updated your goals, background, location, competition, occupation or url to pictures, the info didn't seem to stick when you went back to look at it later.
Have a great weekend!
Blog fixes keep rolling out
This week some of the (bbdev) Team: BlueSheep ,The Earl Bros ,Oracular and Newgene have been busting out some long needed bug fixes for the blog. Below are the fixed rolled out this week.
The team fixed the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captcha. If you've left a comment in the blog you know what I mean. No only did they fix it, they decided to gut the thing and replace it with our standard re-capcha. The Team also removed it for logged in members. Boo-yah!
Revision:1998 <good year>
Issues that were fixed:
- Can't activate blog.
- No management or post links on blog.
- Management links give error page or go to admin blog.
- Blog links in "New Posts" section on portal linked to portal instead
of blog post.
- Blog links in "Newest Blog Entries" on BodySpace were invalid.
- Broken captcha when posting comments. Also removed captcha if
logged in.
That covers the big items for this week.
None of those were issues that 100% of the users saw but it was often a significant number.
We also added a few new events in the my.bodybuilding.com social feeds.
Big week in IT
Well it's been another big week in IT. Several changes to speed up the forums, Social News Feeds have been deployed, Reviews Version 2 went out, and we are working on some pretty amazing back-end changes around the shop as well. All of that on top of the BodyGroups release and the Personal product suggestions makes for a great few months. But wait! There is more, but you'll have to keep checking back and watching the BodySpaceAdmin's blog as well.
[Social News Feed On My.Bodybuilding.com]
Keeping Track of my friends couldn't be easier!
[BodyGroups]
Having Groups makes it easy to keep track of a group of people who share the same interests, challenges and goals.
[Bodybuilding.com Reviews V2]
Now I can comment on reviews as well as find out about a product from people who are using them. I find reviews to be a huge value when looking for products.
[Product Suggestions]
(As if spoken by ELF) What's that! A personal suggestion? Oh I want one!
Video of IT Teams at BodyBuilding.com
So yesterday I decided to walk around an see how well my iPhone would do at creating a video. Granted I knew I'd have to edit the video to add titles, credits and music but overall I was pretty impressed with cycorder capabilities. The team was deploying a few small fixes to BodySpace and BodyGroups.
Fixes included:
BodySpace V1226
- Graphs that were reported as not working on reloads for popular profiles
- Group Invites missing in some profile links
- Friend Invites missing in top 25 profiles.
- Main index and profile page performance updates.
Forums V1212
- Forum Performance Improvements.
Blog: V1203
- Blog Performance Improvements.
BodyGroups V1196
- Small Cosmetics in comments
- Changed Email templates for invites
- Fixed search layout
So here is a small view into our world here at bb.com.
Groups beta released
It's been a few months of heads down coding and business meetings but groups.bodybuilding.com is now in beta. We'll be making changes today and in the up coming weeks so watch for updates. Great job bb-dev team and product owners!
Meet the BB.com dev and Ops team
In an effort to let you all know who we are here at bb.com, I decided to upload a few shots today of the team. It's pretty cold today here in Idaho (up to 34F today for a high).
Meet the Dev and IT Operations Team here in Meridian:
Our Dev and operations area:
Last but for sure not the least is our build and deployment lights (blue is running - code is moving to production - can you say BodyGroups?).
Trip to the bb.com datacenter and more
Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes in bb.com's IT areas?
I'm about to update everyone on some information I think you'll find interesting about our company and our datacenter. You may or may not know much about what we do here at bb.com on a day to day basis with the development team and operations so keep watching my blog as I post more information about IT within our company.
I will be posting updates including pictures, diagrams, stats, and more.
1:20pm MST - I just got back from the datacenter with some snapshots of our cage and the datacenter itself (using my great iphone).
Here are three pictures of the Datacenter:
Here is the entry to the datacenter. Notice the Biometrics!
Now we can take a look at our cage in the secure area once I give my fingerprint twice to get in.
Here are a few more angles of the center:
We have 3 mostly full racks in our cage and we will be adding a 4th very soon. Because I could not take the shot of the racks without the cage in place I had to snap each shot between the wires making up the cage itself. Here they are in order from left to right top to bottom.
Lastly I've also included our logical layout. I'll be updating soon with stats and some other goodies you may be interested in.
I'd also like to thank Global Systems Consulting http://www.globalsystemsconsulting.com for all of the long hours and effort to help us build out or infrastructure to help us service our customers.
Flying again
So it's been about 15 years from when I hung up my last R/C model and turned it into a ceiling anchor. You've seen those planes that hang in peoples garages that they use to fly. They will tell you stories about all the crazy crashes they have had (me 10 planes) and how many cool competitions they did (me 3) and how this plane does this, this other does that. Well that was my planes and my garage until this summer when I decided that my boys were now old enough to take up the hobby with me. We started putting planes online and I picked up a couple of Trainers to teach them how to fly. We picked up this trainer http://www.fsone.com and we used http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:WHgBNXvqfEdf4M:http://surabayahobby.com/images/Hobbico%2520Avistar%252040%2520Monocote.jpg to train on. I also picked up http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:Uikmt3QDI6EiPM:http://www2.gpmd.com/image/h/hcaa60.jpg as a spare, it's always good to have a spare in case you crash the other one. After both of the boys solo'd we decided to put these two planes back on the line also (http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:HhZweiXFUQQbrM:http://www.greatplanes.com/reviews/gpma1038-rcm-1.jpg, http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:pwH1yoLQGwbKHM:http://image2-5.rcuniverse.com/e1/art/kits/aircraft-4391.jpg). Both fly well and here is a video of the Q2 on it's maden voyage after being anchored to the ceiling for so many years.
