So I’ve entered the MuscleTech transformation contest. It’s given me good motivation to lift heavy and eat tons. I really hope I see a significant change at the end…

So I haven’t been around for awhile. When summer came I got really busy and basically my workouts came to a halt. But that doesn’t mean I got out of shape. I was golfing 4-5 times a week. And I always walk (no carts for me) and carry my clubs. If this sounds like nothing, then you have probably never done it before. Granted, it’s not like lifting weights, but it’s still work.
Anyway, I bought this great book from Men’s Health call "Power Training" by Robert dos Remedios, MA, CSCS. I would recommend this book to anyone. I love his philosophy on working out. He has a great real life approach where his routines will help you focus on developing an athletic body instead of one for show. No offense to bodybuilders. I’m not saying you aren’t athletic, just that both approaches have different types of goals. I don’t plan on ever entering any shows, but would love to excel even more at sports.
So I’ve been motivated to start training again. I can’t wait to see how the first 12 weeks go. Now if only I could expand my home gym a bit. I just need to get a house with a good sized basement.

I have never hit the 150lb mark in my life. And this week I have consistently been over that when I weigh myself in the morning. Right now I am up 10lbs from when I started. And I can definitely tell a difference looking in the mirror. I’m already almost half way to my initial goal of adding 25lbs. I actually think I might reach that goal by July if I keep gaining at the rate I am now. That would be great. But I’ll just have to wait and see.

Well I haven’t written about my workouts in awhile so I thought I should. I haven’t missed any since I restarted. I’ve been feeling pretty good, and have been enjoying myself. I keep hoping to see gains faster, but then have to remind myself that the program I’m following is designed to build strength not size. Once I do that then I can work at hypertrophy. I have noticed though, that when playing basketball or doing other slightly strenuous activities, I feel like I’m more prone to pulling muscles. For example, after a leg workout a few day previously, I felt a bit of a pull in my leg when jumping for a rebound playing ball. It wasn’t enough to stop me from playing or continuing my workout though. I just stretched it out a little during the game and again afterwards. So I wonder is it because my body is being stressed from lifting, since I’m pretty new to it and therefore it’s easier to mildly pull a muscle?

Is anyone out there a certified personal trainer? If so which certification do you have, and how hard was it to get it? I’m asking because I’m thinking about getting certified. It wouldn’t be for training people at a gym specifically, but for a business that might be opening that focuses on golf improvement and fitness. The fitness area would just be a part of the overall business. It would include an indoor range, simulator, and computerized swing analysis. So far the certifications I’m looking at are ACE, NFPT, and NCFS. If anyone has any comments please let me know.

So after getting sick my first week into lifting, I’m finally feeling well enough and motivated to start working out again. I decided to just start over my 12 week program last night since I never made it through the first week. And it felt good to do it. I definitely feel it in my legs and back today. Now I just have to get a couple "before" photos taken. I keep forgetting to do that. Come April 30th, I hope to see some changes.

I rarely ever get sick. I’ve had the flu maybe once in the last five years. If anything, I get the occasional cold. But this weekend I caught a horrible chest cold. Simple put it has left me exhausted since Friday. I’ve been coughing up so much "stuff" that I’m actually more sore than my last workout. But what a workout my abs got. Unfortunately I missed my last workout and I’m not sure I’m up for my scheduled one today. It’s a little discouraging since I just started working out again last week. I only got two workouts in before this hit. I wonder what others do regarding working out while sick. Should you wait until you feel pretty good, or just keep going doing what you can? I think I’ll go somewhere in the middle.

Well I did my first workout last night. And I really enjoyed it. Now I’m hoping that by having this blog, it’ll keep me motivated to keep going. I really want to reach my first goal of putting on 10lbs in the next three months. I hope that’s realistic. I’ve read Vinnie’s defeat the skinning gene article and have to decided to try his workout plan. I think the hardest part for me will be eating enough everyday. I’m used to usually only taking in about 1500 calories a day. I really have to get that up. But I’ve got a few supplements to help too like whey protein, creatine, flax seed, a multi-vitamin, and high calorie gainer. So let the fun begin…
