Since I started this contest preparation phase, my number one concern (second only to expense/investment) was HOW CAN i MAMAGE 6+ MONTHS of steady clean eating without losing my mind and progress at the same time?
The answer started for me at www.oxygenmag.com in the recipes section. Just seeing a few things there to try out that seemed harmless enough got me started. What surprised me is that I not only enjoyed cooking but the food tasted really well! After a mild shopping spree last week )($125 worth of cookbooks), we have been cooking up a storm in the kitchen. It’s really fun to cook with the Hubster and seemlessly prepare meals that we both like and enjoy (instead of what we’ve been doing for the last who knows how many months….both eating different things at meal time).
I have to give him his props, he’s the grill master, while baking seems to be my specialty (need to find a new one QUICK).
The last weeks have been more pleasurable foodwise than I’ve had in a long time. Now we spend an hour or so on Sundays creating the menu for dinner for the following week. Nothng will change this though, I still hate cleaning the kitchen!
Today I started my cardio 7 days a week, oh, it’s not going to fun boys and girls. I was so sleepy this morning but still made it in and did the required workout for the day. I saw a video clip of Valerie Waugaman getting ready for a swim workout, she said it was something stupid like 1 degrees outside, it had been snowing and she was bundled up like a coat rack. Made our 42 degrees here in San Diego this morning seem not quite so bad. My hubby asked me why we get up and do it every day… I said, Gina, Meriza, Sonia and Valerie they all do it, day after day, regardless of the conditions outside. He said, “yeah, but they’re pros.” My response: “How do you think they got there?”
Make it a great Tuesday!

It was such an awesome weekend to be so simple and work filled.
First, Friday night, the hubby and I got ready and went to grab our coffee…we’ll we passed a little greek restaurant and pulled in. I had a greek salad (delicious) and he had a gyros (brat). Then we head off…to the boat parade…which isn’t happening until Sunday! LOL, so we went to Balboa park…FULL OF PEOPLE and RAIN… never mind! We drove around for a few then headed home for a quiet evening there.
Saturday…started off with a bang. He trained legs (the four apostles (Tim, Paul, Luc & Paul) and Pete Ciccone (who put a hurten’ on ‘em. I got out to do my cardio on the treadmill in the garage. I ran!! I mean, I RAN on the treadmill. Intervals sprints and running with walking fast intervals. I felt so awesome! Later that day I headed to train legs/glutes at the gym (another kick butt workout).
Did a little shopping, some house cleaning, meal planning, etc. Just general house stuff. In the evening we were headed to Balboa park…more rain. OK, NEVER MIND THEN!
Sunday…sore as HELL but happy. More cardio, intervals at home, sprints, walking, lunges. Finished up the last 20 minutes on the spinning bike with some heavy resistance, jumps, sprints, fast flats.
Bought groceries, we almost spend as much on produce as we do on meats now. It’s crazy, our favorite veggie is asparagus which HAS to be fresh.

What’s so fantastic about it? I’m alive, in good healthy, happy and have a wonderful family and a great set of friends. And it was payday! =) So, I’m off to Nutrimart for supplements (yep, highlight of my week right durr).
I trained abs, calves and shoulders this morning, took it light but brutalized them all the same. Did 2 supersets and triset of exercises (have to record that one, I got it from a magazine article I stumbled across last night (october ‘06). I did 20 minutes of cardio before training felt severly nauseaus and could barely concentrate so I ate and then headed to the gym. Felt a thousand times better after food. This seems to happen every 3 or 4th morning… Not sure what THAT’S about. After training I did 35 minutes of cardio to finish off my daily requirement. I got to work LATE. Lol, fortunately, we’re an engineering firm so it’s a bit flexible on the hours. =)
Food today is going very well so far. I haven’t been excessively hungry or having cravings so it’s been an easy day. We’re super low carbing today and them tomorrow is a medium day following by a high on Sunday.
I may not be blogging much this weekend, I’ve got a full schedule tonight. We’re going tanning, then off to see the boat parade on the Bay. Tomorrow I have cardio, training, posing practice for an hour, have to buy a mirror for the garage so I can practice those quarter turns on a hard surface, have to purchase toys for a child I adopted this Christmas (he’s a cutie pie), plan meals for our guest next week. In the evening we’re headed to Balboa park for the December nights festival.. Church on Sunday, more cardio and then get ready for the week. Who know, I may even sleep some where in there.
My hubby is very happy with my progess of which I’m glad but I’m very flustered that he didn’t say anything before about the fact he thought I was getting icky. Perhaps I’m making a mount out of a molehill but it’s those type of little dishonesties that absolutely irritate me beyond rational thought. It sometimes lead me to wonder if when he says things are ok, are they really? Sigh, oh well. I guess I’d understand if I flipped out and got bent out of shape (maybe I do and I don’t realize it, I’d ask him but…. see my dilema?). =(
Any who, it’s time to roll. Gotta get my weekend started. Wishing everyone well, happy holiday shopping and all that jazz and I’ll be back next week!

Well, believe it or not but I made it out of bed this morning inspite of the LATE night last night. I feel pretty good actually!
Today’s training: I did 25 minutes of cardio, I have 20 minutes to pick up tonight, the bicycle sprints, glutes, abs and calves. Yep, it’s pretty much a full on workout tonight. The good news is tomorrow is my cardio only day so I can sleep in for an extra hour or two before hitting the grind. I train hamstrings and quads this morning. Right now, my quad work is almost strictly: walking lunges, leg extensions superset w/sissy squats. They want to bulk up, in days of yore, I would have been happy…now it’s frightening! =)
I just read an article that put a scary spin on figure training, something I’ve kinda known but has never really hit home before. The judging inconsistencies between shows… I just have to focus on bringing the Best Me I can and let the judges do their job. All else will lead to frustration and discouragement and I’d like to really commit a few years to perfecting (are we ever satisified?) my physique.
Now I just have to find out what shows are local to Washington State for later in the year and into next.
It’s 4 pm, time for a protein shake, two Thermophoric Diet Caps and more work.
Enjoy the rest of your day!

And I’m inspired a bit more.
I just got in from my 2nd cardio session of the day. I did sprints on the treadmill, incline walking and walking lunges. I’m ‘leepy. Just finishing up my egg white and asparagus omelete, going to grab some ZMA, Glutamine w/BCAA’s and curl up like a kitten next to that gorgeous hubby of mine.
nite!

on today’s post prior to leaving the house for work. I had a ton of thoughts, things I wanted to share that have kinda slipped to the farther recesses of my memory temporarily.
I got a call from Gina today, I sent her copies of my progress photos. I’ve been instructed to scale back my upper body training, my shoulders are developing rather quickly (funny, they never did while I was bodybuilding. OH wait, that’s right, it’s cause I didn’t train them properly! Duh). Anyway, that’s a good sign, we’re just marching right along towards the show date.
I posted some photos of Valerie Waugaman on my dream board last night. Just for motivational purposes. I’m so impressed with where she started from to where she’s arrived to. I guess the best way to describe it would be to say she was ‘frumpy’ looking. I think she has a very statuesque physique that I don’t necessarily want to copy perse but those images give me a vision of what I will attain for myself.
So, what am I willing to do to succeed at my goal? Reminds me of that new Nike commercial: LEAVE NOTHING.
Happy Tuesday!!

It’s nice to be home (I really don’t like Los Angeles), (yeah I can hate, I was born and raised there). The show was QUITE large, and there was an endless rollcall for figure competitors. As expected, just about everyone who came from World’s Gym came home with at least one trophy. It was a LONG prejudging and even longer night show but very entertaining. During the ‘intermission’ we headed over to The Firehouse for lunch, a pretty good restaurant catering towards ‘bodybuilder’ type meals/combinations.
As for the figure component of the show, the majority of the ladies were AT Least A FEW MORE WEEKS out from being stage ready. I’m not sure what’s going on with the glute tie-in area but man, that’s stuff is not pretty when you haven’t dieted properly and you’re center stage in a bikini smaller than a whisper. I know it’s dieting and training…but I just wouldn’t step on stage…ohn (oh heck no). Just to put myself in check, when I take my progress photos tomorrow morning, I’m going to do some leg/glute shots to chart my progress.
Gina tighted up my diet even more this week, can you say LOOOOOOOW carbing? I’m wondering if I did something wrong (smile). It’s not so bad really, just a big change from the past two cycle changes. No worries, I’m in it to win it.
I finished up my 30 trial with the Thermophoric Diet Caps. I’m really inpsired to continue using this product into my contest prep though I’m going to probably cycle off for a while since I’ve been using it for so long.
That’s it for now, work is drumming her fingers on my desk. Make it a great Monday!
