Leptin…
Thursday, August 2nd, 2007Been confused lately… I know I have a problem with chocolate and being a vegetarian, it is a little more complicated to get enough protein in my diet, without eating the same thing everyday… but here is my problem. I have been into fitness and nutrition for a few years now, and always thought the 6-meal-a-day rule was a must to become fit and lean. A few weeks agao, I read a book called "Mastering Leptin", by Byron Richards. It is most interesting because it goes against everything I was sure to be true about eating healthy. At first I was very critical of what he was writing, but in the end, it all made sense in terms of hormones function, especially being in the medical field, I’ve had hours of studying on the subject… (not that I am a specialist in the field of hormones or anything, but I knew enough about it to get a sense of what I could believe or not…). So now, after a while of following somewhat the rules (timing of eating, and when to eat protein mostly), I haven’t lost any weight (haven’t been very strict), but I have a greater sense of peace when it comes to eating… before I was in constant war with myself about when to eat, when to stop, (and especially not being able to stop and then eat again 3-4 hrs later when I was not even hungry, and then again, not being able to stop…) so now, I feel a lot better about food, it really has changed my life. Now I need to make some adjustments in WHAT I eat, which is the real problem. But the freedom I got around food now is amazing. I just wonder if it is compatible with my workout regimen… (cardio 5-6 times a week, weight lifting 4 times a week…)
