Bench press comp @ blad Airbase

August 31, 2008

23 Aug 2008 i weighed in at 185lbs. didnt get to eat that much that day. didnt get to make it to the chowhall before i went to the comp because of work.

So i decided to open with 365 which was really easy. by the time i got to go for my sec attempt it was about 30 min later. so i had 385 on the bar it felt really light, but for some reason i couldnt lock it out. it just stopped and i looked at bar but it still didnt move. so i though i could power thru it on the last attempt but NO didnt happen.

i started watching some of the other competiors and noticed the head judge did not make them pause it very long and some he did. One guy looked like he was going to crush his chest he came down so fast. but as soon as the bar touched his chest the judge said press. Weird because i was coming down very controlled and when it touched my chest he waited about 1 sec. Which is no excuse for not getting the lift because i pratice 2 sec pauses when i workout.

So the moral of the story is i was a weak ass on this day! however I was the Second heavest bench and won my wieght class but came in second to a 240lb bench presser who bench 450.

power band training

August 11, 2008

i used power bands ranging from 80lbs to 175lbs depending on the lift.  Using bands on core lifts have shown improvments in the past. I decided to use them on every lift that i could attach the bands to for 3 weeks.

Result: Loss of power all lifts on full range of motion.

Problem: had to use less weight do to the resistance of the bands, at the bottom of the lift the weight was alot less than i would normally work out with, but midrange and lockout being extremelly hard.

The Key: Use bands only on core lifts bench, sqaut and deads for only 1 week max.

Next up will be the matrix principle training i am currently doing right now then i will max out in 2 weeks for the results.
