Anybody know of a good place to find wholesale gym equipment, or have any advice for building a home gym?

Depending what you are looking for www.thegaragegymstore.com has some great deals and equipment. I am stocking my entire gymthrough them.

Keep your eyes peeled for free weights being listed in your local newspaper’s ad section. Years ago I sold a ton (probably literally) of weights, bars, benches, and a free standing squat rack through an ad in the paper.
And what about local gyms? We had a small gym in the Carlisle area that went belly up. I wonder what they did with their equipment. Maybe it went to auction or perhaps the stuff was sold by the owners to other area gyms.
You could also contact local schools to see if they’re unloading old equipment. My alma mater built a new fitness center and I’m sure they got rid of a bunch of old Universal machines in the process.
And, of course, you could place an ad in the paper that you’re looking for weights, etc.

We placed and add in our paper that we were looking for weights and benches and it took several calls to answer but lucked out on a complete Olympic lifting set and "nice enough" bench and rack. Does the trick. More people will respond to an add rather than place one since it does cost money. Cheap buggers!

Look for deals on craigslist.com. I suggest getting a powerblock set, bench w/ squat setup, & pullup dip station. Just from catching deals on craigslist my total came up to about 400 bucks and that was with about 385 pounds in weight plates!
