Running for beginners!
I couldn’t find anywhere else to post, so this is a good place as any!
I need advice on how to start running? I know, just start…yeah, great answer.
I mean how to pose your body, keep head up, watch out for the knees, etc.
Since it is now winter in NJ, running outside is a no-no. I have been using the elliptical for the past couple of months but haven’t been too happy with the results!
I want to be able to run and I found out that because I can run 5 miles on elliptical, I am kidding myself if I thank I can do it outside…believe me, quite humiliationg scenerario. Long story short, my fianc?e woop my ASS big time.
So, let them roll in. I am a beginner…if there is something less than beginner, that is what I am.
Goal is to be able to run 5-10 miles without breaking a sweat. And timeline is July 4, 2008!
Thanks

The eliptical is def. going to be a lot less stress on your joints than a treadmill. As far as results go, do you mean weight loss results or increasing your speed results?
You could try a treadmill for awhile and see how you feel doing it and assess the matter from there, pretty much the same as running outside. Personally, I hate the treadmill, it kills my feet/legs, gives me shin splints since I have flat feet.
Maybe mix it up a lot during your cardio sessions, bike, stair master, eliptical, treadmill, or switch every so days or something. Even though a bike is not "running" you’re going to build you’re endurance and lung capacity, which helps with regular running.
Let me know how it goes. Good luck.
