I have been eating a lot better the past few days. It’s hard though. most of the time at the chow hall it’s a choice between bad and slightly less bad. Today I had some of the most bland fish I have had in my life along with some green beans and rice. It dry and tough to choke down. The only meal I enjoy is on Fridays, steak day.

Just a little bit of cardio to help build my base. I got in a nice, slow 30 minute run. I feel like I am getting my stride back. I have been reading a lot about barefoot running so bought some Nike Free’s. When I get home I will probably get some Vibram Five Fingers to run. They look goofy as hell but I don’t give a damn if they help me run more efficiently.

I have been hitting it hard all week. As a result pretty much every muscle in my body is sore (thanks to the deadlifts). My first instinct was to push through it. That is what I have done in the past. However, it almost always ends up with me getting injured. So I am going to heed the advice of many on this board and take it slow. I am taking today off and I will ease back into things with an easy workout tomorrow. A little extra rest should do me some good.

My formula for getting back in shape is pretty simple; eat clean, lift hard, rest, and repeat. I have been lifting hard and heavy and I have been sleeping like a baby the last few nights. I just need to get my nutrition right. Not only am I not eating clean, I am not eating enough. I am sabotaging the hard work I am putting in the gym by not giving my body the food it needs for fuel and recovery. It’s hard to eat clean here. The choices at chow are minimal. I have to do my best though and make until I get home where I can control my diet better.

I did some lower body work today. All in all it was a good workout. I think I am gettign back in the swing of things. The hardest part was the finisher, which was running a mile as fast as possible. After doing some heavy deadlifts that mile was the longest one I have ever run. My legs felt like they were made of lead. I hit the road again tomorrow so I hope my legs aren’t totally shot.

I am one of those painfully skinny guys who love to lift but hate to run. I forced myself to put it a few miles today. It was obvious that I am in bad shape. I decided to start off with a nice, slow 30 minute run. I am going to stick with tese types of runs a few days a week until I have a base level of fitness. After that I will incorporate in somoe speed work and some runs with my x-vest. Tomorrow morning I head back into the gym to hit the lower body.

I am feeing it today, especially in my back from the rows. Tomorrow is a lower body day so I should ready to hit the upper body again on Saturday. I couldn’t get my lazy ass out of bed this morning so I missed my morning run. I am going to have to find a time to fit it in during the day. The boss went on leave today so I can probably sneak out an hour early and get it in this afternoon. I have been sleeping better the last couple of days. I hope it stays that way and I can get myself back into a rhythm. When I am tired I am more likely to veer off track.

I was able to squeeze in a quick workout during lunch. It wasn’t a great workout but I’m glad I at least got it in. My loads were pretty low so I’m not even going to post them. The workout included a barbell complex that broke me off. I couldn’t even make it through two rounds. It’s obvious that I need to establish a base level of fitness before I really get into it. I’m sure I will be paying for this workout.

The good news I finally got some good sleep. By "good sleep" I mean I was pratically in a coma. The bad news is I slept right through my alarm and was late getting to work. Obviously I didn’t get my workout in this morning. I am going to try and sneak a workout in over lunch though. They it will be back to morning workouts tomorrow.

I am a soldier currently deployed to Afghanistan. I was in the best shape of my life after my last deployment so I came in with big plans this time around. I was sure I would live this place with the body I have always wanted. This hasn’t been the case. I am three months in and I have been lazy as hell. I am officially skinny fat. I have been skimping on workouts but not on the fat boy food in the chow hall. I can’t take it anymore. I still have 6 or so months to get my body straight. Big goals are nothing without a solid plan. I am going to follow Defranco’s new program "Built like a BADASS". On the off days I will be running doing either timed runs for endurance or speed workouts. This will help me with my 2 mile run on the PT test. We have a small chow hall which doesn’t have much healthy fare. I will do m best to pick the least unhealthy food. I will also be downing a shake between each meal. Our gym is pretty basic too and it gets really crowded at night. The best time is ver early in the morning. This might mean getting up at 3 or 4 in the morning. That is easier said then done, as I am not a morning person. I believe if I can get into it for a week though it will become habit and I shouldn’t have a problem. Enough with the talking, let’s get liftin’ Stay tuned…
