Still working

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

even though I haven’t been posting.  I missed about 2 days because of some other things but I figure 5 weeks on and 2 days off is not too bad.  Plus I’m already back on the "wagon".

The results are still coming and I can see and feel myself gaining a lot of size.  I just still need to cut away some more BF.  I’m going to step it up and add some more HIIT like jump roping and sprints.

Diet is still going pretty good.  I’m house sitting for someone this week and they don’t have all the food that I need unfortunately.  I brought over some whey and that’s helped out a lot.

Here’s to continued success!

Leg Assault

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

I just killed my legs today.  I’ve never had a leg workout like that before.
Squats supersetted with leg extentions

then

Leg curls super setted with hyperextentions

4-5 sets of each.  Holy crap I was dead.  I couldn’t even walk to the hyperextension machine.  Also, I haven’t done hyperextensions in a LONG time and they hurt a lot.  I couldn’t stretch out my hammies because my back was so tight and sore.

I can’t think of a better way to end my day. :)

Killer workout

Monday, June 9th, 2008

I had a great workout today.
It happened again this weekend.  I’ve been taking sat and sunday off as my rest days but I’m not going to anymore.  Without working out I just don’t have the motivation for my diet.  I’m just going to change my schedule so that I only have one day of at a time.  That’ll help a little bit.  What can I say?  I’m addicted? :)

Sailing Disaster

Monday, June 9th, 2008

I’m not sure how many of you have heard of this story:     http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/06/09/sailors.rescued/index.html

I was up practically all weekend following it as many of my friends were on board.  I have actually been on this boat before and really wanted to participate in this regatta.

It is such a tragic loss of a great man and I hope you can keep him and his family in your prayers.

N.O. day one review

Friday, June 6th, 2008

well I’d say I was happy with my results.  The stuff didn’t taste too great but it wasn’t awful(I know that will change in about 2 weeks).  I did legs and shoulders today with 20 minutes of HIIT.  The NO was great.  I don’t ever drink caffeine except for the occasional green tea so I’m sure that hit me pretty hard.  It was a great pump up for my workout because I was hyper and almost out of my body.  I can’t say that it really helped me lift a lot more (although I can’t be sure) but it was interesting and I’ll use it again.  I don’t plan on using it everyday, probably only 2 maybe 3 days a week on my really hard workouts.  That way I won’t build up a tolerance.  Plus I’m already pretty motivated without the stuff.

I just took one scoop with about 16 oz of water and stirred it up.  Next time I’ll probably use a little less water so I’m not drinking for 10 minutes.  The results were somewhat instantaneous.  I was just suddenly on a caffeine like hype.  The effects only seemed to last about an hour and a half for me which is all I need but I suppose I could drink another scoop as I begin my workout to keep the effects lasting strong.

Today concludes the end of my first month of training (4 weeks) and I’m pretty excited.  I’ve been keeping to my diet very well minus 2 big cheat meals.  If I can keep the up I’m very excited about what I’ll look like and feel like in August.  Next week I start an even more intense workout filled with cardio and weights all in the same sets and it’s going to be a blast.
Have a great weekend!

New Purchases

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

I went out and bought some N.O. explode and some more protein (I went with the ON chocolate, I’ve been missing my chocolate).  I’m excited and skeptical about trying the explode.  If it just feels like a caffeine boost I’m not going to be very happy.  This is my first venture into the supplements world and if it doesn’t live up I’m not going to be very interested to buy much else in the future.

What are my expectations?  I’m not really sure to be honest.  Just more power to finish sets I suppose.  I’ll just have to tell you when it happens.  I got the blue-raspberry flavor after being told it was the best although I’m not sure about that.  I don’t really care they probably all stack up about the same.

Had a great bi/tri/abs workout today and tried the gyms handheld fat % calculator.  It read 12.8% which I’m not really sure if that’s close to accurate.  I would like to get an accurate reading because I feel like that’s the best way to track myself but I’m not sure how to go about simply getting a reading without a full Personal training hour or any other service.  Any ideas?

Still keeping on

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

I was tired as hell this morning but I drug myself to the gym and then to work.  By the afternoon I had forgotten about the gym completely but I was glad I went.  I buckled on my diet and got some fast food and to be honest I really didn’t enjoy it.  I really only eat fast food once a month if then even when I’m not "dieting" so it wasn’t a big deal but it’s just more proof that I’m really changing my lifestyle.

I’m really researching a good pre-workout supplement to get.  I’m really not understanding the practical differences between the NOs and the BCAAs and the whatevers.  Perhaps I just need to drink more green tea.

I’ll post some more progress pictures up sometime kind of soon.  I need to take more measurements also.  Really, I need to find out if the gym has a fat calculator machine thing because I know that’s my best way to track myself besides just pictures.

Starting Week 4

Sunday, June 1st, 2008

After this week I’ll have been working out 5 days a week for the last month. It’s going great and the results are really starting to show.  I started a new job this week but I’ve been bringing my lunch and everything is going great.  Unfortunately there is a 7-11 on the way (slurpees are my devil) and I’ll probably stop there eventually but not so far.  It’s always interesting to me how you stop craving sweet/fatty/not good foods once you are really working out and eating healthy.  Even after a long hellish day I’m craving chicken and black beans not a giant slurpee and skittles.

This site is a great home base for my daily self.  It keeps me focused and if I need to blow an hour or so instead of lounging in front of the TV eating I can look around here for a while and get motivated.

This week will conclude my strength building(low rep) weeks and I’m going to move into some wicked supersets with cardio and lifting.  It’s going to be a lot of fun and make my gym time a little more interesting.
