January 2nd - Legs day (and tragedy struck!)

Today was legs day and I was excited to get down into the gym with my wife and have an intense leg day.  Squat, front squats, nothing was going to stop me from having an awesome workout.  I had my creatine, my breakfast an hour earlier and was feeling great!

I started off on the treadmill and did a 10 minute warm up at 6.2mph and a 2.0 incline.  It was harder than I expected, no problem though I was still going to kick butt on legs!

I started with squats and did the bar for 15 reps to warm up, I then did 205lbs for 12, back was a bit sore so I got out a lifting belt which I normally don’t wear but I wanted to ensure my back didn’t go out, I wanted an awesome leg workout.  I then did 235lbs for 10, no problem, then I did 245lbs at 8 again no problem.  So I slapped on 265lbs did one, no problem, did 2 then SNAP!  Out goes my back!  Son of a !@@#$.

I was not going to let my back get the best of me.  I growled downed 3 advil and walked around for 5 minutes.  I looked for a way to get a big leg workout with no back.  Impossible you say!  Well then it struck me!  This is what I did:

Leg extensions - 175@12, 175@10, 175@10, 175@10 then strip to 140 for 5 more, 175@10 then strip to 140@5 then strip again to 105@5.  Feel the burn!  Last set (the 6th) 175@10 then strip to 140@5 then strip again to 105@5, then stip again to 70@10!  Burn baby burn!

Next was leg curls - 130@10, 120@10, 120@10, 120@10 then strip to 95@5, 120@10 then strip to 95@5 then stip to 70@5.  Wow awesome!

Next I did a super set of walking lunges and standing calf raises - I started off with a set of calf raises at 185lbs for 10, then the superset - 25@10/205@10, 25@10/205@10 strip to 185@8 then strip to 135@10

Lastly I did seated calves - 205@12 for 4 sets.

Well my injury didn’t get the best of me and I suspect I will not be able to walk tomorrow.  If we want to be the best we can have NO EXCUSES!  We must look for ways to be successful.  Take care all!
