Let me tell you about my leg day.
I changed into my gym strip wandered down stairs and into the dark
recesses of my basement gym. I was tired and not into this work out. I
thought about what others on this post would be doing and remembered that they
were urging each other on to great heights. So I jumped on the tread
mill for 10 minutes to warm up.
Sweat was dripping down my forehead when I stepped off the treadmill. I
was feeling better and moved over to the squat machine. I usuall start
with the bar for a warm up. Today I was going to go heavy so my warmup
started at 135 lbs.
After a set of 15 I was already sweating and my legs were already
feeling tired. This was not a good sign. So instead of another warm up
I decided to get into the meat of my work out. I added two more 35
pound plates 2 25 pound plates and 2 10 pound plates, for a total of 275
pounds. I walked under the wieght hefted it up and pushed out 12 reps.
I got out sweating profusely. I got 2 more than I normally do. I added
on 2 - 5 pound wieghts and this took me to 285 lbs. I got under the
weight again. This is usually my max weight for a set of 6 to 8. I
lowered myself down to the stops which is at parallel. I pushed out
four with ease. 5 and 6 were very hard as I pushed the air through my
lips that were stretched tight as I strained. I read that Ronnie
Coleman never does less than 10 so I push out 4 more. My 10th rep was
slow as I pushed with all my might to get the weight up.
My legs were quivered slightly but I made the 10 reps.
Whoo ya.
I added another 5 pounds on each side to bring it to 295 pounds. This was so close to 300 so I decided to add on five more pounds and take myself to 300 lbs. I have never squated 300 lbs to parallel before. Short squats I can go up to 400 but these deep squats
are troublesome for me. I thought I would try to get 6 of these.
I stepped uder the bar and thought again of Ronnie Coleman’s famous
qoute.
I picked up the 300 pounds on my shoulders and said under my breath
"nothin’ but a peanut". I lowered myself down and touched the stops and came
back up. The first four were extremly tough. Sweat broke out on my
forehead and my legs felt like lead. I got to 6 reps and my legs were
screaming for me to stop. "Nothing but a peanut" I said louder, and
thought about how I was going to be stronger and leaner than I have ever been by next summer when I hit the beach. I lowered down for a seventh and an eighth. My legs were full of lactic acid and were burning like the fires of hell. I decided at that moment that I
would go for 10 even if I failed. My ninth rep had my legs jiggling and
my progression upward slowed down significantly. One more… I forced
myself down to the stops one last time pushed up and the bar seemed to
hover at that level for a few seconds before it started moving up. My
legs quivered and felt like they were going to explode. I looked deep
down inside of me found a last bit of energy and slowly raised the bar
to the starting position. I hooked the bar and almost fell out from
underneath the squat bar. I was breathing very heavily and sweat was
pouring down my face. I did it. Nothin but a peanut.
I felt so good about this accomplishment (though I was very dizzy) that
I decided to go up on my lunges. I usually do 3 sets of ten with 65 lbs
dumbells but decided to go to 70 lbs today. I had never done it but
what the hey you only live once.
I won’t go on about the difficultues of my work out but you get the
picture.
I did 70 lbs for 3 sets of 10 another record for me. I then went on to
do leg extensions, leg curls and ball squats for one minute intervals.
It was a grulling day but I felt great to have pushed so hard without a
training partner. When I went up the stairs my legs felt like they had
45 pound wieghts strapped to them.
I felt sick for about 20 minutes after the work out. It was one of my better workouts so I thought I better share it with you.
Keep those workouts going and remember the summer will be here soon.
