Training partner

I was in a mood last night. Got to the gym and was feeling ok. My training partner was late. He didn’t get to the gym til 6:30. I got there at 5:30. Usually he’s there by 6 but he had a flat tire so it wasn’t really his fault. But I hate waiting for people. So 45 minutes of cardio later I was a little miffed. I went to do some abs but wasn’t really able to do much because of my back. Finally he shows up and here’s what we did:

 Chest ~ Supersets

Incline, Decline, Flat Bench ~ 3 sets (10xbar; 20×20bb)

Butterflys ~ 3 ~ 10×30

Triceps ~ Supersets

Decline bench ~ 3 sets(10×20bb french curls; 10×10db skull crushers)

Tricep machine ~ 20×30 ~ 20×30; 20×40

I was dead tired and my mind was preoccupied. That and when I picked up a weight he’d say, get something lighter. That was really frustrating to me. I want to tone up for the summer but I think that’s why I never hired a personal trainer. I don’t like being told what to do when I don’t want to do it. I don’t know if it was the diet and I didn’t have enough to eat or that I wasn’t using my Purple Wraath but my focus was not on my workout and all I wanted to do was go home. I really think all that cardio before my weight training is what zapped me. So todays diet will consist of a little more real food than yesterday to see if that’ll help.

I started talking to him about how much protein I should be taking. I was under the impression that more protein is better. About 1-2 grams per pound? Yesterday I only got in about 98 and 108 in carbs (too high). He said I shouldn’t be taking more than 75 grams of protein a day. ??? So last night my mind was spinning and I’m thinking his goals for me are different than my goals for me. You hear about the trainers that think woman should go light weights and high reps. And he’s like that. But I have to remember that we’re trying to cut and tone up for the summer. But still, isn’t that a little low for protein. Next time I’m going to try the Lean Dessert Protein. It has less carbs than the Syntha-6. But I like the fact that the Syntha has BCAA’s in it since I’m not taking the Purple Wraath.

GJ is leaning out now at 1.5g protein per pound of bodyweight, might drop it to lean bodyweight come closer to show time. She’s getting 1g carbs per pound total bodyweight right now, too. Right at 1200 calories a day presently. "Women should train lighter" is a bunch of bull. "Lighter" only happens in our workouts when the reps are 15-20+ per set. If his goals aren’t in line with yours, ditch him. A trainer’s job is to get you the results you want, not what he thinks is ideal.

Hrm, doesn’t sound like the best start with the partner routine, but it DOES sound like a great workout!! And as for the protein, I’ll defer to the more knowledgeable one above. :) But, 75 does sound a bit too low, though I did have some digestive issues when I did 1 gram/pound. I acclimated after a couple weeks, though!

OKay as a personal motivator myself..lol Go heavy or go the f*ck home!!…lol I agree with Adam 100% 1.5 gram per body pound is what I recomend! The only thing you should adjust diet wise to lean out is Carbs. I dont know the story behind your new Partner…. but unless he looks like Jay Cutler…. You do what you think is right for you! This is a great place to get info. I know Trixter is a wealth of knowledge. All ask your Partner if he has ever pulled off a full Bulldog…with no hands… now thats talent….lmao

I think he thinks I want to look like a runway model (even though they have no muscles). I want to look like figure competitor or fitness model good! I’m going with the higher protein. At 75 grams I’d starve.

You should sit down with him and talk to him. Perhaps bring some pics of chicks you want to look like. Show him your goals and if he doesn’t come up with a plan that will work for you then it’s time to move to Denver and train with the Trixters ;)

cute .. geminijed. were all moving to denver.
Looks like you did a good workout bulldog. Sounds like your back is getting better. Which is nice as it is tough to not be able to lift to ones normal cpacity. Hope you get it right with the personal trainer…who needs to starve when one is building muscle.

Protein intake is soooooo highly debated on here. :P For what it’s worth, I keep mine on the higher end because I have found that I both look and feel my best when the protein is high ~200grams/day. Did you ask for his opinion on your diet intake? If not and you didn’t want it, tell him to shut the F up. :P I can see why him telling you what weights to use would be annoying, especially after his flat tire made him a full hour late! If he is a person that you trust though, maybe try putting your faith in him for a few weeks and see what comes of it? :)

I’d ask to see this dude’s credentials. Bill and the others are dead on. You should be taking in at least 1.5 grams per pound of weight. And lift heavy till you puke if ya want and don’t let any sissy ass tell ya different. Not that I’m trying to tell ya what to do…since you’ve already said you don’t like that. LOL!!
