Learning Moderation on the Ketosis Diet

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

I’ve had about 20-something diet cokes a day for 15 years.  I probably have consumed more cans than any human being in the US.  And, I just stopped while doing ketosis.  I have no urge to go back.  I’m almost unsure as to how I drank so much of the stuff in the first place.  And you know?  Its ok.  I don’t miss it.  I don’t feel like I was forced into it.  I just did it.  Now, I drink water instead.  And I’m enjoying water.  Just plain old water.

The ketosis diet is teaching me moderation and I’m kind of enjoying taking a little…not a lot.  You appreciate things more.

Closing in on 8%…

Saturday, December 15th, 2007

So I’m now down to 14 lbs of bodyfat.  I’m losing more muscle than I’d like, about 50/50.  Probably need more protein for muscle maintenance.  My weight is now at 163, from 178.  I figure I need to get down to 155 to be near 6%.  Holding on to muscle mass would help, so got to keep the protein coming!   I think in one week, I’ll be under 160.  My cardio has been weak, as I keep getting sore ankles and don’t want to push on it.  Need to workout well, not necessarily hard, to stay healthy.

Life on the No Carb Diet

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

I can say those keto strips are a waste.  Mine barely change color and you could debate if they change or not.  The surest sign is that I have virtually no hunger, ever.  You eat because you know you are supposed to, not that you need to.  I also have this very high, constant energy level.  I hit the gym for a light all-over weight session with an empty stomach, and never got tired.  Weird, huh?  We had a holiday party yesterday and there was TONS of food, I could have eaten 5 lbs.  Maybe that’s the advantage of dieting BEFORE the holidays, because you start BEFORE you pile on the weight.  Yeah, not as much fun, but…I’m just getting into my cardio.  My muscles couldn’t take it at first because its been months since I ran, but I’m back in running shape now.  Again, working out without carbs is hardly an issue.  Perhaps the opposite, its easier!  I like knowing my calories are coming from FAT not muscle too.  When I do eat, and I’ve eaten out a couple of times (although ordering carefully), my weight doesn’t go down but it doesn’t shoot up either.  Its eye opening to order from the 300 calorie menu and seeing what little food there is, how many calories is a regular meal again?  1200???  Fortunately, since eating is optional, it doesn’t bother you.  I’m now about 167 so I’ve lost a full 10 pounds now.  My 12 pack+ diet coke habit is history and so is my beer habit.  I feel like these changes are going to be permanent.  I miss neither.  I drink water all the time and I’m starting to crave it!!!

Posted from a treadmill…why sit to surf?

5 Day Later…

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

So I left off at 171.  5 days later, I am at 169 from 1 lb of fat and 1 lb of muscle/water.  That’s not too bad.  I didn’t lose much over the weekend so I think the rate will accelerate going into Friday.
