Back in the Saddle - P90X

August 10, 2009

My first 90 day transformation was a great success, but the pool opened soon afterward, and I decided (incorrectly) that I could relax for a while.  Well, I did, and my body paid the price.  I gained back about 10lbs.

This sounds bad, but I of all people know how that can be erased fairly quickly with some dedication and hard work… and I’m here to BRING IT!

Sometime during my first 90day program, I heard about this P90X program.  After some research, I decided that it was a program that was consistent with my nutritional plan, and with my hard work ethic.  I did the Fitness Test on Friday night, and the first day of the program the next morning.

If anyone doubts whether this program is the real deal, let me assure you that it is.  You HAVE to be committed to get through these workouts.  Your muscles will burn and fail on a regular basis while you try to keep up, but it hurts SOOO good.

I am one of those people who naturally gravitate toward routine, and then get bored and frustrated with lackluster results.  In my first transformation, I had to work hard at making myself switch things up.  I hope that P90X will do that for me, so all I have to do is get out of bed and work my ass off.

And work my ass of I am.  I only made it through the warm-up for Plyometrics on Sunday before my hamstrings started screaming for me to stop.  I know the difference between burn and burn-out, and I decided to stop and give my legs a day to heal.

This was a great decision, because today I was able to give it everything I had all the way through.  Nothing can sap your enthusiasm and resolve like an injury… especially a preventable one.  So, I am on my way, and I can’t wait to update you all on my progress.

Keep it up, and SHRED HARD!

Day 3

May 25, 2009

Had a good workout today.  I went lighter than usual on the weights to concentrate on control.  I also got 30mins in on the elliptical.  I took my daughter Mary out to the pool and we had a great time.  Unfortunately, the youngest is sick, so mom had to stay home with her.

I can’t even imagine how I would have been able to keep up with her today if I hadn’t made this transformation.

A new start

May 23, 2009

Well, the day has finally arrived.  Today, the pool opens.  I did not reach my goal of 199, but I did pretty darn well.  I have been focused on getting other things done for the last few weeks, so I’ve been putting my exercise goals on hold.  I have still been working out regularly and eating well (mostly), but I have cut out cardio workouts all together for a while.

I have really maintained well, and have even shed a few pounds over the weeks.  However, it’s time to get back to working toward those six pack abs, and they aren’t going to show up all by themselves.  So, today I am restarting Mission 2.  I hope everyone has been doing well, and I’m looking forward to catching up on everyone’s progress.  Shred hard!

Day 34

May 6, 2009

It’s getting close to the pool opening.  I have until the 23rd, or 17 days, to be in the best shape possible.  So, effective today, I am instituting project "17 Days of Cardio".  Each day from now until then, I must complete AT LEAST 30 mins of cardio.

I am looking forward to achieving my goal of 199lbs by then, and I believe it is possible if I just stick with what I’ve been doing, and pushing myself that extra bit each day.

Tomorrow will mark the end of M2: Week 5, and I have great results to share.  Keep rooting for me, and I’ll be checking in with everyone soon.  Shred hard!

Day 28: M2: Week 4 in Review

April 30, 2009

Down to 208.9 today.  Not bad considering I took the week off from regular lifting and cardio.  I was feeling like I needed a break last Sunday, and I’ve heard it’s good to take a rest week every now and then.

Surprisingly, sticking to nutrition alone this week has still produced results.  I feel lazy not working out, so I finally broke down today and went to the gym.  It feels good to be back.  It’s funny how just a few months ago I was dreading the gym every day, and now I feel lost without it.

I’ll probably wait till next week to post new pics.  I’ll have to go twice as hard this week and take advantage of the body rest I’ve gotten.  Hope everyone is getting results and Shredding Hard!

Day 21 - M2: Week 3 in Review

April 23, 2009

209.6!!!!!!!!!

I had to confirm it 3 times, but I am now under 210!  Alot of hard work went into it this week, and what a great reward.  I’ve got my sights on 199 and I will get there by May 28th, I can feel it.

I can see that my new lifting routine is paying off as well.  I’m seeing some definite changes in my shoulders and biceps.  I benched 225 for 3 reps yesterday… this has just been a great week all around.

I have to get to work this morning, but I PROMISE to have new pics by tomorrow morning.  I keep forgetting to do that.  Anyway, have a great day, and SHRED HARD!

Day 19 - In pursuit of sub-210

April 21, 2009

I had a great run this morning, and my wife and kids came along too.  My kids were excited to see me running around, and I think my wife was impressed a bit too :)

Anyway, workouts and cardio have been right on track this week, and I think I’m on track to be UNDER 210 by my Thursday weigh in.  Hopefully, I be able to corner a trainer at the gym for a BF measurement as well.  It is excited to see my muscles become more visible as the fat evaporates.  I was stoked to find that I was seeing veins in my forearm and biceps while working out last… what a great feeling!

I must admit there have been times this week that I have considered cheating a bit.  Last night I carried around a Snicker bar for about 5 minutes while I tried to convince myself it would be ok "just this once."  I resisted, and I’m glad I did.  I’ve been holding on to it to celebrate a special accomplishment… so maybe it will be my reward for hitting 200.  Or, maybe I’ll just keep it around indefinitely to remind me how far I’ve come.

With two days to go until the end of M2: Week 3, I am happy with my progress and my motivation is through the roof. I hope everyone is doing well, and SHRED HARD!

Day 14 - M2 Week 2 in Review

April 16, 2009

Down to 211.4 this week. Not bad considering the lack luster Easter weekend.  I have a good feeling that I’ll be under 210 by next Thursday.

Had a great leg workout this morning.  Going heavy didn’t seem to have the same pump effect as my arms day did.  I may have to try a little harder next time.  I did 30 mins of cardio… I was planning to go for 500cals, but since I’ll be working on my feet today, I’m not worried.

Hope everyone is having a great week!  Shred hard!

Day 12

April 14, 2009

Great workout today.  I decided to switch things up a bit.  I’ve been making steady gains in my lifting all around, but seem to have peaked in size.  So, instead of doing my normal routine for Bi/Tri/Shoulders, I did step-downs for all of my exercises and started really heavy.

In particular, I’d like to see some gains in my shoulders, so I added a standing one-arm "arnold press" to my routine.  I really felt the pump today all around, so I’m confident I worked everything hard.  It feels good to feel the tightness and muscle fatigue after a good session.

No lifting tomorrow, but I’ve got a date with cardio that I’ve got to keep.  Shred hard!

Day 11

April 13, 2009

May 23rd 2009.  D-Day.  This is the day the pool opens, and I am determined to be down to 200 by then.  I set a personal best today on the elliptical… 510 cals in 35 mins.

I have 40 days left, and I intend to use every last second to push myself further and harder than ever before.  I will be almost exactly halfway through Mission 2 on the 23rd.

If you ever wondered how fit you can get in 6 weeks, just keep an eye on my progress charts… that vertical line is not an illusion :)   Shred hard!
