So I’m finally succumbing to Protein!
Okay, after weeks of going back and forth I finally decided that I’m going to start drinking those Whey protein drinks as replacements for those extra two meals everybody talks about. Okay, now I’ve been reading about Casein protein and it’s benefits due to it being a slow digesting protein. And it seems that it is better in terms of fat reduction than Whey. So, my question is has anybody had any experience with Casein protein and is it wise to combine scoops of both Whey and Casein? Thanks to any responses out there.

Hello Counselor
casein is better when you go to bed to inhibit, for awhile the catabolic state. That being said, whey is cheaper, and these days pretty easy to come by.- just check that you are not buying one that says "gainer" as this will have alot of carbs. As far as a fat burner, the additional meals will increase your metabolic state which will burn more fat. Simply put, get a low carb whey protein and adjust your calories to facilitate weight loss.

cottage cheese is a casein protein, so you can have that as your last meal before bed.
Good luck!

I too decided to try the casein drink. I was using a mix with casein and whey when one of the trainers from Gold’s Gym saw what I was getting and told me how much fat it had in it. So instead I bought 100 percent casein and bought a lowfat - low sugar whey and I mix a scoop of each for one shake a day, usually right after my workout. It does say that the casein is actually a good night time drink though for while you sleep. I haven’t been using the casein real long but feel I am starting to see a small amount of muscle gain. I have lost 11 lbs in the past 4 weeks but it is a strict diet. I have been staying faithful to it. I eat 5 or 6 meals a day. I have protein at each meal, (lean beef, grilled chicken, fish, egg whites) also eating salad, broccoli and plain almonds. This is my shredding diet for now. Anyway, I was stuck at a certain weight, and when I started eating more small meals, it started coming off again. So I do believe many small meals really makes a difference with your metabolism. It also helps me to have alot less cravings so I can say no to junk foods. So good luck. Keep at it and you will achieve your goals.

nonfat milk has the perfect combination of whey and casein that your body needs. It has fast-acting whey to immediately give your body a burst of protein to make it anabolic, and then slow-digesting casein to make it anti-catabolic. Plus, it’s cheap. And has some low GI carbs as well for energy.
