At least here. It was been 2 months since I posted a blog although I’ve often written some in my mind. But you can’t read that, can you?

I good friend wrote this in an email I received: (hope it’s not too preachy for some)

‘To get something you never had, you have to do something you never did.’

When God takes something from your grasp, He’s not punishing you, but merely opening your hands to receive something better. Concentrate on this sentence.. ‘The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you.

That really hit home with me. For me it meant that to get back the more fit body I had, I need to be changing some things that I’m doing. And maybe it’s not just with me fitness but in other parts of my life as well.

I’ve slipped this past week because I didn’t put myself on my list. I know that’s probably the catch phrase to start off 2009 (thanks Oprah) but it is true. I was writing out what I had to do one day last week and I came in 3rd or 4th! Groceries and my little part time job were above me. Now of course we have to eat and make money. But if I’m not healthy, those other things may not get done. As the COO of my household, there are just some things the CEO will do only if forced (groceries). (He does work.) So off I go to design my day and the rest of the week. I’m making the effort to put myself on top or at least 2nd.

Have a beautiful day and stay warm!

I’ve been eating (mostly) clean and doing my workouts consistanly for about 6 weeks now. So why haven’t I seen the changes I expected? I did measurements today and while I have lost some, it’s not what I hoped. My hubby has told me that there is less to grab on my behind and friends have commented on a slimmer shape. I know that by lifting more, I’ve gained muscle and that weighs more. But if I were my trainer (and I am), I’d be disappointed with the results. (BTW, I’m 5′10" and 149.6# this am.) Main objective is to lose the belly fat and upper thigh fat; get definition in arms and legs; improve posture; avoid genetic risk of heart disease and diabetes.

Did I set my goals too high? (See profile.) Is my nutrition wrong? Cardio not intense enough? Upon further reflection, here’s what I got: Cardio has not been intense enough; maybe too much sodium - need to monitor; age - I’m getting close to 41 (poor excuse); genetics - thanks Dad.

Here’s my typical food:

B: 4 egg whites, 1/2 c dry oats, 1/4 2% cottage cheese, 1T flax meal, 1t Splenda, 3x shakes cinnamon - make into a pancake - eat with 3/4 blueberries. 12 oz coffee with Splenda and splash of 1/2% milk

OR

1/3 oats w/ 2/3 water, 1/8 c or so dried cherries, aprox 2t brown sugar, 1T flax meal

L: Shake: 8oz light soy milk, 2 scoops GNC Wheybolic Extreme 60, banana, 5-7 strawberries, 1/2 blueberries (usually post cardio or pre lifting)

S: 20-25 almonds - usally post lifitng workout

D: 1c steamed brown rice, 1/2 chicken, gobs of veggies - all stir fried using 1T olive oil and a little bit of sesame oil, reduced sodium soy sauce, 1t plum sauce

S: 1/2-3/4 c 2% cottage cheese, 1/4 Kashi GoLean Crunch cereal, 2t honey

I’m estimating it’s 1600-2000 calories. If I have the time this weekend, I’ll calculate it out.

Drinking lots of water - I don’t measure it.

Workouts: Alternate days - cardio, upper, cardio, lower, cardio, uppper - you get the idea. It’s basically the Body for Life schedule.

I am going to have my hubby take pictures tonight. That will give me a good idea as to how I’m doing. I’m not expecting too much change tho.

I’m going to go do cardio now. Later.

1. To hold in contempt.

I think I am misprizing my abilities to gain muscle.

Truly. I am experiencing a total lack of motivation combined with exhaustion. What’s going on? Yesterday all I wanted to do was sleep and lay around. It was a cold rainy day, but I just couldn’t snap out of it. Today I still feel lethargic with maybe a bit of a cold coming on. I’m trying to eat clean, but that often goes out the window along with a couple of cookies. My kids have ½ day of school today and no school tomorrow b/c of conferences so there’s no going to the gym (kids under 14 aren’t allowed) but I do have just about everything I need in the basement. So clearly there’s no excuse for not doing something - except this lack of energy and motivation. Is it my body telling me I over did it with my upper body w/o Monday? I still ache. Darn DOMS! Then I think it’s “depression” over the fact I’m not getting my personal training business off the ground due to lack of funds. And I don’t want to take out a bank loan or put stuff on a credit card. (Man, I’m awfully whiny!)

OK, so I’m off to the store for a couple of things and to swing by the office to send out an invoice (I work for the family construction business part-time.) then pick up the 5th grader at noon.

Have a great morning! Monica

Holy $**t! She had quad bypass on Thursday. She’s only 65! Scary thing is my friend’s dad has his 1st heart attack at 42 and died from another one 10 years later. Things aren’t looking too bright for my “sister” who is only 37, overweight, high blood pressure, high triglycerides, etc. Too many heart disease risk factors. As her sister (we say that b/c I’m an only child and she has 1 brother she’s not that close to), I want to get her on track but she has other eating disorder issues and some addition issues to. As a personal trainer, I want to write her a program and motivate her to stick to it. I think once her mom comes home and is well on the road to recovery, it will be time. My gift to her.
