Competition Training Update: 7 Weeks Out

Monday, March 5th, 2007

Next Competition: Emerald Cup, Bellevue, WA. April 21, 2007!

Competition Training Update
Week 9 of 16, 7 weeks left  (posted 5 March)

My weight loss stalled so drastic action was required last week. The diet is now:

  • 3 days of 30g carbs, 360g protein, followed by
  • 2 day sof 60g carbs, 360g protein, followed by
  • 1 day of high carbs (2x my weight), 180g protein

I have complete one cycle of this and the results were good: I was lean and€”more importantly€”tight after the 3 days of 30g carbs, and stayed tight even after the high carb day yesterday (during which I pounded the carbs even though I missed the total goal of 360g). I crave, in a way, the act of  having the 30g of carbs for the next 3 days to see the results. Yes, I’ll be starving but what the hell: it should be worth it.

My strength has remained good in weight training. I had an outstanding leg session last Friday as my trainer really pushed me to use weights I wasn’t sure I could handle well. Yet, I did. He is amazing at getting me to push myself.

Training Update 27 January 2007

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

I weighed 184 pounds today: a pound was lost in a week, which is the right speed at this
point. My 3 low-carb days are now at 60g per day. Today is actually a high-carb day and I’m
looking forward to it.

The definition in my upperbody is coming along nicely, and as my waist has
reduced my v-shape has become more dramatic. My serratus muscles are more clearly visible as
are my upper set of abs when I stand up at full height. This is the time when getting
frustrated with the low carbs is mitigated by looking in the mirror to see the inspiring
results.

My trainer continues to push me. The cycle of light legs on Monday with heavy
legs on Friday I believe is working. Training with him also gives me the option to shake up the
rest of my routine since the Tuesday and Wednesdays I have with him are never the same
bodyparts, giving me Saturday and Sunday to work in my own thing.
