Malcontent Monday Analysis
Disgruntled?
Yesterday for some reason was a day of disgruntlement!! It really didn’t seem like anything was going my way, everything I did led to more grief and the topper here….I’m just not sure why!
Why do I find myself complaining about this or that on some days? Why is it that I can feel a general sense of discontent every so often? You ever have one of those days where it seems like every other person out there in the commute with you, is there for one purpose, and one purpose alone: to irritate you? Ever feel like your co-workers only sense of job satisfaction comes on the heels of making you look bad? Ever feel like even your pets may be out to get you? Ever feel like the stars must be aligned just right, so any action you take is WRONG?
Well, in the name of finding causes for the above, the following are potential reasons for my intermittent disgruntlement:
- Maybe it’s the fact that when I get up in the morning, I am forced to watch the news or ESPN on a huge flat screen TV.
- Maybe it’s the fact that my kitchen is filled with healthy, natural foods that took only a fraction of my salary to provide.
- Maybe it’s the fact that I live in a house, just like 77 % of my fellow Americans.
- Maybe it’s the fact that I sleep in a huge California King bed at night and for numerous naps on the weekends (hey, I’m old and enjoy me some nap taking okay)
- Maybe it’s the fact that I can take naps on weekends, as I typically only work during the week?
- Oh, I know, it’s gotta be the fact that the city I live in is not riddled with mortar shells exploding constantly and gunshots going on as a result of the warring factions in my city. Oh yeah, that’s right: we don’t have warring factions in my city.
- HHhm, could it be that I have the convenience of like 40 grocery stores within ten miles of my house; each of which holding more food in the first aisle then many third world nations have seen in months?
- Maybe it’s the outbreak of numerous uncontrolled viruses that are killing many in my neighborhood….oh wait, that’s not actually happening in America.
- Let’s see, it’s got to be the fact that I live in a household that has two incomes and two vehicles….
- Or maybe it’s the fact that to fill those two vehicles with gasoline, I have to wait in a line that may take hours each time and then when it finally is my turn, I have to utilize a months salary to top the tanks off…wups, sorry, that’s not happening to me either.
- Alright, it’s got to be the free coffee I get at work….it doesn’t taste great…should I be bitter about this, even though it’s free? Hhmm…
- Maybe it’s the fact that I do have a job, just like 94.5 % of my fellow Americans!
Wow, so far, it’s not looking so bleak…there’s got to be something…let me tool on…The answer for my intermittent disdain has got to be obvious…right?
- Aha, I know, it’s the fact that I have health, dental, and life insurance through my company!! Oh, maybe that’s a good thing too…..
- Well then, maybe it’s the fact that I have an incredibly nice home gym in order to work my body as it was intended to be worked….
- Maybe it’s the fact that I actually utilize said home gym in order to work my body, in order to be in shape, in order to resist disease, in order to keep my body functioning properly, in order to release stress and tension, in order to gain further control of each and every muscle on my body….
- Maybe it’s the deal where I can go out and eat at like a 1,000 different restaurants, offering like a 1,000 different types of cuisine….all within about a 20 mile radius of my home.
- Maybe it’s the fact that the Super bowl will be played at a stadium situated less than ten miles from my home, and as a result, the area has built up into an incredibly nice and aesthetically pleasing location to live and play
- Maybe it’s the fact that I still have the health to go play with my sons and the fact that I have the freedom to let my sons play, rather than send them out to work at all times
- Maybe it was the fact that I lived in a country that said I should go and learn, garner more knowledge, rather than work at a factory or in a field during my childhood.
- I know what it is……Yep, here it is…..It’s the fact that I live in a country that allows me to be all I can be, a country that for the most part and at the end of the day, has said to it’s citizens, “you have the choice to be proactive, reactive, or a giver, a taker, or heck, be whatever you want as long as you prescribe to, and follow a few laws.” Not really a bad deal, I don’t suppose.
Darn it….ya know, I just can’t come up with any good reasons for ever being disgruntled…Maybe it’s the fact that I take things for granted sometimes?
Parting shot: Live today without regret. Don’t say, “if only,” or “tomorrow, I’ll.” Do today, what you may be able, for tomorrow, may be too late. – BodyAuditor.

It’s good periodically to put things in perspective. As a society we seem to have lost our ability to do that. Good Monday blog.

Great blog, brother, we ALL have something to be grateful for!!! No matter what the circumstance or situation, it could always be worse!

wow. a great insight to what we live but don’t see. We really have a tendency to take advantage of the things we are most thankful for and for the ones we take for granted.

Thanks for posting this. I was in the habit of thinking about positive things every time I felt that way a few years ago, and since I’ve forgotten the concept. Great blog!

Excellent post, BA!
And you know what - I’m so happy to read that there are other senior citizens out there, who enjoy naptime as much as I do!

You know….this blog reminds me of a missionary couple that moved from an impoverished nation to the states… they told tales of being overwhelmed with all the riches that we have.. like having 75 choices for cereal…each thing that they mentioned hit home with me… we really can not appreciate what we have because we have ALWAYS had… wouldn’t it be something if we all chose to give up our comforts for a mere week and see how fortunate we really are?? Thank you, Scott….
