Today’s workout May 31, 2008

Saturday, May 31st, 2008
Today I was more concerned about records than anything. I have a new challenge for the “circle bash” at the end of July with a friend, whoever can lift the most total weight in the three powerlifting events (bench, squat, dead). We are prestty close right now in total weight, she has a better bench than I do, but I have a better squat and dead…I just wanted to see exactly what I could do.

BENCH (Previous best 155×2)

2 x 8 x 135 lbs
2 x 5 x 145 lbs
1 x 3 x 155 lbs
1 x 2 x 165 lbs (PR)
2 x 1 x 170 lbs (PR) Gain of 15 lbs

The reason I did the 170 twice was that I wanted to get it on camera, the first time it didn’t go so I did it a second time, and I got it, but then found out I didn’t have the memory card in so I have no way of transfering it onto the computer. GRRRR. Ah well next time I’ll get it at a higher weight

DEADLIFTS (Record 275 lbs)

1 x 10 x 135 lbs
2 x 5 x 205 lbs

Not even close to my best but my grip wasn’t the greatest. I know that is something I am going to have to great improve upon.

LEG PRESS (Previous Record 5 x 600 lbs)
I know Leg press is not a powerlifting exercise. This gym that I go to on Saturdays, I don’t know what it is, but everytime I try to squat, I get major headaches. It used to be an old warehouse so the air circulation is poor. I will attempt my PR squat on WEdnesday on my normal leg day.

1 x 12 x 450 lbs
1 x 10 x 540 lbs
1 x 8 x 590 lbs
1 x 5 x 630 lbs (PR)
1 x 5 x 680 lbs (PR) Gain of 80 pounds!!!

I did the last set deliberately slow and controlled and making sure on all of them I didn’t lock my knees like I did last time! I was amazed it seemed so easy! Steph, girl, you’re in trouble!!! ;)

Day 1 of new attitude

Friday, May 30th, 2008

Man, what a change waking up having a great attitude.  It’s amazing the changes that are going on before my eyes.  I woke up had my oatmeal with flaxseed and a tine bit of splenda brown sugar, then did some bicep and shoulder work with my home dumbbells. I felt so much energy.  What a feeling!

And about this little contest going on!  Any suggestions on colors for Steph’s T-shirt.  What are some of the worst color combinations?  I was thinking a puky green with bright yellow lettering myself… I want to make sure people stop and really look at her when they see that she is my bitch! :) Love ya Steph!!!

Live like you were dying and Lift like you were trying

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

I don’t know why it hit me so suddenly, amybe it was the hard workout this morning, maybe the fact that it was a nice sunny day (finally), but as I was making my 3/4 mile walk from the gym to work, it finally hit me. F*ck, why the hell am I so down all the time!  I should be living every day to its fullest and not wallow in self-pity.  So starting right now, there is a new me… no more crying mo more poor me.  I am going to walk tall, head high and say to myself, I am a damn good person and to hell with anyone who doesn’t think so.  I am going to start doing things I have always wanted to do but did not have the balls to do.  In my life I have done 2 crazy things (that I can think of sober at least LOL) and I want to share them with you all.

The first thing was (and no Americans, not all Canadians do it LOL) the polar bear dip. For those in the souththat doesn’t know what that is, basically in the middle of winter, they cut a huge hole in the ice and a bunch of people jump in…. just because…that day was -20 outside so it actually felt warmer in the water.  It was so exhilerating, and no I didn’t get sick afterwards.

The other thing was about 10 years ago, as part of a radio contest/promotion, I had to go to all four corners of a very busy rush hour intersection. OK so what right?  Well, I was completely naked!  I had a cell phone with me and the DJs of the radio station was having me do things as I was walking, like trying to order at McDonalds or asking people for directions.  Again, I felt so free.  It was such a wonderful feeling.

It’s time to get that feeling back.  I don’t know what my next feat will be but when it happens I will let you all know.

Also, my great friend Steph (daretosoar) has just agreed on a little contest!  Upon discussion we have discovered that although our lifts are different, the 3 main powerlifting lifts when added together is VERy close to one another… She has a stronger bench, but my deadlift and squat are stronger. So at the bash, we are going to have a powerlifting contest with a bottle of Cytolean as a prize.  We will have the circle there cheering us on (I hope) so it will be a great tmosphere!  You’re going DOWN Steph! ;)

BLAM!

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

Well this is the halfway point of my challenge and I am actually feeling pretty good. I know I have been down at certain parts of it but all in all seeing the progress, I am very happy. I didn’t think I would hit 600 pounds on the leg press so soon and I did. I didnt think I would hit a 200 pound squat, and I did. I didn’t think I would hit a 275 pound deadlift and I did.

Speaking of a deadlift…I got a message on youtube the other day on my video for the 275 pound deadlift…I thought was pretty funny (unless I am really stupid and he is right.)

His quote…"how is that a deadlift? u just lifted and put it back down u actually have to lift it first and go down and put it up and that is a 1 rep

Now with every powerlifting competition I have ever seen, all the powerlifting videos I have seen on here, I have never seen anyone have to do that to be considered one rep… maybe SLDLs but not straight deadlifts.  I mean deadlift = lifting a dead weight LMAO. Ah well!

Well anyways he is a video of me flexing my bicep, I am excited that I can actually see something happening when I do it…Just thinking how good it is going to look in 2 months!  BOOM!!!!
