Home-Gym vs. Commercial-Gym
There are many benefits to working out at a commercial gym, (i.e., access to different equipment, workout partners, personal trainers, etc). but I, like many others, prefer working out at home. I am a spontaneous type who may work out at 6am oneday and 10pm on the next. A "home gym" (just a bench, weights, curlbar and dumbbells) allows more flexibility for me to just kind of do it whenever the mood strikes BUT, I am at a point though that I think I have gone as far as the home gym can take me (results not coming as quickly as I would like) and would like to hear from others who had to give up the comforts of a home-gym for the benefits of a commercial gym.

Not to long ago I actually did the opposite. I gave up the commercial gym to work out at home. I bought a bow-flex and decided to use that because my fitness goals have also changed.
I’m sure you can think of all of the benifits of working out at home:
-no line ups
-no parking
-no machine hogging
and the list can go on and on. But the real reason I gave it up was because I was diagnosed with post tramatic stress disorder and had a social anxiety that prevented me from going to the gym.
But here is the funny part, I still go to the gym 1 day a week just to have the social exposure and to remind me of how nice it is not to put up with a bunch of b/s at the commercial gym. That and it keeps me from going completly nuts.
I have no idea how much this has help… if any. I guess it’s still nice having a home gym even if you can’t find the time of going to the gym. I sure do enjoy it and wouldn’t give it up for anything.
Take care and keep on training hard.

I gave up the home gym a few months back and dont regret it. I used the home gym a lot but then i felt like i hit a plateau. So i decided to head to a commercial gym to see if the variety of workout equipment would help me Safe it to say it did help me, the variety of equipment is what is one of the best features . If you do plan to go commercial make sure to sign up with one that has hours that fit your schedule.

I had an elaborate home gym and got great results. When a new club was buit near my home that is convenient to use I got membership. I made much better progress at the club than at home. I have a competitive nature and like to have people around even though I almost never train with others. It also helps to like the place your training in. With motivation a person can get into shape anywhere it just depends on your personality.
