NO MAGIC PILLS
So I am comming out of Kroger (grocery store) and I run into a guy that I see in the gym at least several times during the week. He looks the same all the time. I doubt he only goes to the gym for maintenance only, since every so often he’ll ask for advice about this and that…
A brief conversation between he and I transpires just outside of Kroger as I head to my car (parked in the fire lane).
Him: Aye, what’s up man
Me: Chillin’ just about to go home and cook for the week
Him: Really?
Me: Yeah
Him: Well I about to go in and buy some food for the next couple days too
Me: Oh ok, they’ve got a great deal on Tyson boneless skinless chicken breast (I give him a peak inside my grocery bag showing him exactly what I bought).
Him: Oh, that kind of chicken.
Me: What do you mean, it’s the only kind of chicken?
Him: Nah, I normally just buy Stoffers chicken.
Me: In the frozen food section?
Him: Yeah, its got 20g of protein and you can just pop it in the microwave!
Me: Uh, huh and like 20g of fat too. Think I’ll stick w/ this here.
Him: True, true. Man, maybe I should get the chicken you’ve got and just throw it on the grill.
Me: I would, especially since you said that you were trying to cut up now…
Him: Alright man, I’ll holla at ya.
Me: See you in the gym!
This is very common. Fellow gym goers ask me what to do to bulk up or what to do
to loose fat. I tell them and they go and do something else.
WHY?
Is it because I don’t say hey, go take this MAGIC pill to get swole?
Is it because I don’t say hey, go take this MAGIC pill to get ripped?
If diet is truly in check, then additional supplements are always a plus in my book.
However, many people I come in contact w/, rely mainly or solely on supplements for
gains. I can’t back that practice.
I say this. If you really want something, no matter what it is, you’ll be willing to make the sacrifice.

when you think about it, you’re right. A lot of people do the training hard thing or training all the time, yet most don’t realize that the diet and what you do outside the gym plays a role as important if not more.
Like you told me, the diet is really what got you to where you are, and from the looks of things, its working.

this sh/t made me laugh out loud……
but it cant be worse than the trainers i see at bally’s sitting at the counter eating burger king or mcdonald’s waiting on their clients! HORRIBLE…

You got that right! I have seen the numbers for getting results put as 80% diet, 10% training, 10% genetics. I have learned alot about nutrition over the past couple of years and it makes sense. You are proof that the diet does make a difference. Looking good bro!!

Simply put, at the end of the day: You are what you eat. . . .

What are you, some kind of mind reader!!! I was just kicking my own A$$ about how hard I work but can’t really bring out the best body I can because I am not disciplined at the dinner table. And that’s why they call your mid section abs, and mine a stomach.

Yeah, man. Diet is the hardest work you have to do, when it comes to getting big/cut. I feel you on this one!

You are soooo right!! I’ve told so many ladies at my gym about the fallacy of the "magic pill" concept. They thought I was taking something! No way! Hard work and cleaning up the diet is what works, and is what will continue to work for years to come. Thanks for writing this!!

People also don’t realize that Protein in Stoffers chicken is probably not even worth 20g. Quality protein varies as well. From where I live we get our chicken local and its vegetarian fed and amish raised. Frozen chicken is good as well but not tv dinners.

Your right what you put in your body after the gym is just as important as the work you put in inside the place. People nowadays want instant results and when they see nothing right away they get pissed and throw in the towel too soon.

So so true, dude. The world wants a ‘quick fix’; they want results NOW. As my former coach said they "want to get into heaven without passing through the Gates." Everything worth doing takes sacrifice. And if they aren’t willing to do it, then that’s their loss.

This is so true. I like the comment someone made about trainers eating Burger King while waiting for clients to arrive. Now how many of us can attest to that? It’s sad that the role models at the gym set such bad examples. Your gym is lucky to have you there to answer their questions. However, it does no good when they don’t follow your advice. All they have to do is look at you to know you know what you’re talking about! Great blog entry!

I resemble that remark, for the holiday season is among us, some of us are working long at the unit and are tired and just want to go home and eat something quick, organize, shower, then sleep. That meal…OMG…kills the diet everytime. You are right. Discipline, discipline.

I just wanna say thanks for the many people who have stopped by, read and enjoyed my blog.

I plan to get my certification in personal training. Besides head knowledge when choosing a trainer, I look at their body, If there is no eveidence of hard work and discipline- I am thinking what possibloy can you teach me. People judge you by your actions NOT your intentions.

Very true post. A person can be in the gym for two hours a day but if what they do the OTHER 22 hours out the day aka (their diet) does not work in conjunction with their workout they are just maintaining their current weight and body fat level. If a person is in the gym a LOT (and really working out) and their body is not changing then their diet is the culprit. I had to adjust my diet as my body was not changing but I’m in the gym five days a week.

This make’s sense. Iam still learning to get my diet right. Thanks.
