Injection #2
I received my 2nd - in 4 months - cortisone injection today. I tried not looking at the size of the needle. I knew I was making a huge mistake when I sneaked that peak. What was I thinking? It just made the pain of the injection all that much more pronounced. All I could think about was that that needle has got to be touching bone. Of course I realized that it never even came close but it sure as hell felt like it especially when the doctor started rotating the needle to “hit” all the areas of concern. He said that he figured it was easier to rotate it then to pull it out and re-inject it. Hey, that was good looking out on his part! I am a big wuss when it comes to needles.
If this injection gives me half the relief that the first one did then today’s pain was well worth it.
I have to wait at least a month before I can schedule surgery. Then it’s 6 weeks in a restrictive sling (during our first consultation I believe that he told me 4 weeks) followed by 3 to 4 months of therapy. The doctor also spoke of a “screw” that he will have to screw into my shoulder bone to help hold and tie every thing together.
Okay, can I just say that he didn’t paint a pretty picture in my mind by telling me all this today? He could have just told me after the surgery that I will now be setting off medal protectors because of a screw he placed in my shoulder. Then it would have been too late. The damage would have been done and I couldn’t sit and think about everything.
When it’s all over and done he did assure me that I would be able to lift again. But then he also stated that it could tear again because it will be held together by a screw.
You know, I am starting to think that I am really screwed here!
