HELP!!! Experiencing pain.

I posted in the forums, but thought I should post in a blog as well…  here is my post:

I am having pain that feels very similar to shin splits in my forearms along the outside when I do bicep curls. Especially if I do them with a bar (ez or straight) rather than dumbells. It does not feel like muscle pain. It actually feels like bone or tendon pain. I’ve experienced tendonitis and carpal tunnel years ago. This is definitely a different feeling.

I’ve asked some friends and workout buds, but none of them have ever experienced it. I’ve watched very carefully in the mirror and focused on the movements to make sure I am using the right muscles to make the movements — nothing seems to lessen the pain. It’s frustrating, because the pain lingers and makes it difficult to hold heavy objects — i.e. weights. Has anyone ever dealt with this kind of situation and is there something I can do to fix it?

Yes, the last time I was deployed I experienced the same sensation. I had to cut out my upper body workouts for a couple weeks. Also, make sure you check your calcium intake, as the bones in your forearms are what is becoming weak. Now, I am not a doctor nor did I go to one when it happened to me, just make sure you take it easy for a little bit as you are liable to aggrevating the problem to a full blown bone fracture. If you have any other questions or concerns, feel free to PM me, I have nothing but time on my hands nowadays, lol.

I’ve had pain that sounds like the same. It radiated down the inside forearm bone (between pinky and elbow) whenever I did curls or gripped the squat bar. It turned out to be extreme strain on the wrist joint. I widened my grip on both exercises (actually, switched to dumbell curls for a few months) and now it is gone.
Good luck to you. I hope you find the cause soon and get back to feeling 100% and lifting heavy.

If you feel this pain a lot of days, I think that you have to see a doctor… Why we don’t give our attention to improve our technique? And we focus only on how to raise more pounds / kilos? I think there is the point: The right way to make our workouts..

I just experienced the same type of problem on my last cycle when lifting heavy. I’ve tried putting pressure on certain points in my arm with my fingers and it turned out not to be bone but a certain tendon in there under the muscle, right next to my bone. It hurt like a MOFO when I pressed on it!!

The reason I got mine was I got slack on my form when doing standing barbell curls. My wrists are always at a wider position on the bar than where my elbows are, and I never deviate from that. Well this time I did and I felt the pain of a strained tendon.

I’m resting for a couple of weeks and then going into a high rep phase of my next "cycle". That’s part of my bodybuilding program anyway and probably why I haven’t killed my tendons or joints yet! haha

So in other words I’m telling you to widen your grip or take some time off and start back maybe with some high rep work. Sorry I don’t know anything about supplements for joints and tendons, though.

Let me know how things work out for you, as I’ve experienced the same thing and would be interested to know!!

All is good. The pain has subsided. I’m just taking it easy and paying attention.
