Two workouts so far this week…

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

A weight workout on Sunday, and running/flexibility this morning. I’m mixing everything up, trying some exercises that I haven’t done in a while (like Power Clean). Going more for fat burning, endurance, and definition more than strength and mass. We’ll see how it goes. I like the variety.

And, after my workout this morning on the treadmill and doing some core exercises, I feel really good. I should do this more often.

Getting outside, finally!

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

Yesterday was a beautiful day! And today looks like it’s going to be even better. The sun is finally really starting to shine, and the temp is finally warming up. Its’ about time! Maybe we’ll have some consistency in our weather for a while.

Because it was so nice, and because I had a weekend actually free, I decided to start doing a bunch of yard work. I spent about an hour or so outside working the yard yesterday, and today I’ve already spent a good half hour or more, and I have at least another hour or so of work that I want to get done today (a lot more that needs to be done). I’m having to tear up a good portion of our yards to attempt to get grass to grow. And since I don’t mind the physical labor, I’m using garden tools instead of machines. Our yards aren’t that big, but there’s a lot of work that needs to be done on them. Plus some landscaping to keep water from eroding all our dirt.

Anyway, that will probably count as my workout, unless I decide to run on top of that. I might, depends. But I probably won’t lift any weights or anything like that. I’d rather do a "real" workout anyway.

Have a great day!

What time is it?

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

It’s time for ALLERGIES! I haven’t been able to do a workout since the 14th because I now have my spring allergy infection. Can’t breath, ears plugged, throat sore, and dizzy at times. When I try to do a workout, I either gag or drop the weight. So now my energy is centered on battling this stupid allergy infection, which my medication is really supposed to be preventing in the first place. Ggggggrrrrrrrr.

If this becomes anything like any other infection I’ve had, I’ll be out for two weeks. in fact, it was a stupid allergy infection that kept me from doing anything at the beginning of the year! So 2008 has just sucked so far as far as training and fitness are concerned.

I need sleep. I’m sure that’s the ultimate cause of my problems. But…how do I get more when I have so much to do?

Today’s Full Body Workout

Monday, April 14th, 2008

Went pretty well. Increased some weights on my "test" that I’m giving myself every week. Here are this week’s numbers:

BB Squat = 225/10 (+2 reps)
DB Chest Press = 60/10 (+10 lbs)
BB Row = 105/10 (+10 lbs)
DB Upright Row = 30/11 (+1 rep)
Cable Machine Shoulder Press = 130/10 (+10 lbs)
High Plank Hold = 1:30 (+22 secs)

There you have it. Hopefully either tomorrow or Wed I’ll be able to run the treadmill test for this week, among other things.

How much more work can get piled on me?

Sunday, April 13th, 2008

I’ve been reading and writing notes for hours now, trying to get all the stuff done for not only my grad classes, but also the school classes that I teach. I’m learning a lot of neat things, and sure, I love it. I wouldn’t be paying out the rear end for grad school if I didn’t like the subject area. But the work! GGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRR.

Okay, back to typing notes and lesson plans. No workout today…..but hopefully I can go to bed early tonight and wake up early for a super workout. We’ll see.

Mixed workout today

Friday, April 11th, 2008

After work, I went to the gym. Played around with some weights, did some mixed cardio/endurance exercises, etc. Just a variety of stuff. Good workout. Now I’m tired. Tomorrow I’m hopefully going to be able to run. Depending on if it snows or not. It’s pretty cold right now and the wind is aweful. But maybe I’ll run on the treadmill sone and do some bodyweight exercises.

I didn’t know I could be this sore!

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

Ouch. That’s all I can say right now. From all that I’ve done this week, I’m so sore! I can barely move sometimes. Today will be an interesting day for sure. Probably no workout today. Rest, so I can go kill myself in the gym tomorrow.

Back in the game!

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

Played racquetball today for about 1.5 hours. Felt really good. I haven’t been able to play in a long time, so it was great. My legs and left arm are really tired right now, and I’ll probably be really sore tomorrow. Oh well, it’s great to be back in the "game" so to speak.

Don’t know what I’m going to do tomorrow. Maybe some weights…depends on how sore I am. I feel like I’m starting all over again, and maybe I am. That’s what happens I guess when life goes haywire on you.

A good workout

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

After work, I went to the gym (not my usual time). Full body workout, one set only of major muscle groups. It felt really good. I hadn’t done a full strength workout in at least a week, if not longer. So to reach the weights I did was, I think, pretty good.

BB Squat = 225/8
Box Jump = 50 in 2:18
DB Chest Press = 55/10
BB Row = 95/12
DB Upright Row = 30/10
Cable Machine Shoulder Press = 120/10
High Plank = 1:08

I’m trying a new method for my routine (I’m always experimenting). The above exercises are my "test" exercises, and once a week, I’ll run through the entire test. My other workouts during the week will be whatever I feel like doing. I want to see what a difference, if any, I see by not focusing on the same exercises every workout, and all the sets/reps that go along with it. A nice experiment for me. If it works, I think I’ll even try it on my clients.

I’m still on a "national championship high," but need to think about going to bed. So tomorrow, I’m planning on playing some racquetball. Haven’t done that in a while either. It should be a lot of fun.

Take care!
