MRI results- SURGERY A MUST

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

Today I went to the Virginia Spine Institute in Reston, VA and confirmed what I had hoped to avoid: surgery.  I have a herniated C6,7 disc and a spur on C5,6 disc both of which will be operated on April 4, 2007 (next Wednesday).  The surgeon said it is very possible I will recover with 100% strength once the surgery is completed but there is always the possibility there can be some permanent nerve damage.  It looks like there will be no lifting for another 6-7 weeks.  By that time I may be weighing in around 150 and looking like a skeleton but if that is what it takes, so be it.  I am determined to come back from this even stronger and more determined.  As my forum signature states:  "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!" Phillipians 4:13.  The enemy comes to kill, steal and destroy but Jesus says He came to give life and more abundantly!  By my faith in Him, ALL WILL BE WELL!  God bless you all and please keep me in your prayers on next Wednesday that the Lord will be with the surgeon and his team giving them wisdom and me strength for a speedy recovery.  Praise God!  Amen

Back in the saddle again

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007

Well I finally did get back to lifting after a whole month of nothing but cardio.  Lost a lot of weight but a lot of strength as well.  I am totally amazed at how the neurological system of the body can disable the muscles.  You read and hear about how everything is connected and all but until you experience it, well I just didn’t understand the potentially fatal results you can have by something as simple as a pinched nerve.  IT DOES HAPPEN- TRUST ME!  My advice to others would be to train smart.  An injury can have devastating effects.  I was training for mass back in the last 3 months of last year and I guess my ego got the best of me.  Trying to put up impressive numbers will only set you back.  I was hitting all time personal records but I paid for it in the end.

Oh well, time to restart SLOWLY and LIGHTLY as the doc says.  Thanks to all who have sent emails and prayers.  I appreciate everybody on here.  God bless you all!  I will let you know when I am back to full speed and will post some updated photos at that point.  I lost too much to post photos for March.  Hopefully in April I will be back to photo shape.  At least by then I will have a tan and not look so ghostly LOL!

March 07, 2007 Update

Wednesday, March 7th, 2007

Well I had said I was going to update this on a weekly basis, however I wasn’t real sure what I was doing at first as far as this blogging thing goes. (it sure sucks getting old :d )  Anyway, the injury was something called Nerve Impingement on the C6 & C7 vertebrae in the cervical portion (lower neck) of the spine.  I have been seeing the chiropractor on a daily basis for the past 4 weeks and things seem to be improving greatly.  I hope to be back to lifting by Monday of next week.  I feel as though I have lost a significant amount of muscle but as the old saying goes, "Stuff Happens".  Talk about a humbling experience.  You take the body for granted until you lose the ability to perform certain functions.

Thanks to all who have given feedback and your general concern.  I will update more often if I have this thing figured out before long.
God bless you all!
