Bodybuilding Competition Dream

August 4, 2009

So I am at work and can’t seem to get last night’s dream out of my mind. I was in a natural bodybuilding competition, my first one, and the judging went down in a desert. The podium with 1st/2nd/3rd place spots was right in the middle of nowhere. The names were called and I was one of them, got the 3rd place spot. Usually that’s not good enough for me but having this be my first competition (in my dream) I was honored to make the top 3.

After that, I got to talk to Jay Cutler, who was congratulating me and telling me what to do to get first next time. Awesome dreams, and maybe I can get into a competition in 2010. I thought about that yesterday with my training partner. I see that we both like to hit the weights hard but speaking for myself I lack the extreme discipline to get the last of the belly fat off to look complete. I am shredded everywhere else, got the 1st 2 cubes of my abs showing, but the waist would come down in proper diet (which i stray from every saturday) and cardio (which I don’t do much of since my body reacts so quickly to it).

In any case, if anyone in the NYC area currently competes or has some advice and input on how to get into my first competition, it would be greatly appreciated.

First ‘insult’ by a distant friend

April 10, 2009

I need to vent and I figure since it’s bodybuilding related, here’s the place to put it…

So I posted a pic of Tom Platz on my FB links and explained that he’s an inspiration to which my friend commented ‘haha i really hope thats not what you are aiming for’ and I was like ‘hmm what exactly is wrong with looking like that? :\’ then she says ‘only that it’s gross!.. muscles are nice .. too many muscles are nasty.’ and at that point I wanted to explode but instead wrote ‘personal preference i guess, thanks for the input though :D ’.

I mean seriously I don’t go around saying skinny is ugly or fat is ugly, so why try to throw your opinion on something I strive for? I wasn’t saying ‘hey everyone, what do you think of this guy?’ so whyyyy!? Eh, the anger’s settled so I guess I’ll stop. Thanks for reading ;P

Calling all bulkers!

September 16, 2008

Hey everyone, so the time has come for another bulking session to begin. I’ve got lots more knowledge since last year and yet I feel like I’m off to a bad start. First let me list my diet and we’ll work from there:

8:30- Optimum Nutrition Gainer shake (650cals/60g protein/85g carbs)

10:00- Egg whites, cheddar, oatmeal (or cream of wheat, I mix it up). Supplements include my AST Multi Pro 32x multivitamin & Universal Animal Omega EFAs. 16oz. water.
1:30- Angus burger on whole wheat, lettuce, tomato & a side (rice or potatoes usually, sometimes steamed vegetables). Finish it off with a bowl of fruit. 16oz. water
4:00- Granola bar. 16oz. water.

6:00- Gym time (Scivation Xtend in 20oz. water)

8:30- Optimum Nutrition Gainer shake (650cals/60g protein/85g carbs)

9:30- Ground turkey meat (93/7), cottage cheese, 16oz. water.

11:00- 8oz. cottage cheese, then sleep by midnight. (sometimes I have the cottage cheese RIGHT before bed, not sure if that’s ok)

So basically that is my diet, and I have to make an appointment with a nutritionist, because I’m not sure but with all the workouts I felt like it would help me gain size & it seems I get the strength and strength alone.

My workout is as follows:

Monday: Back & Biceps (or back & tris if it’s a week I switch it up)

Wednesday: Legs (I like to keep legs on Wednesday, just flows well for me, though I do switch up the workouts)

Thursday: Chest & Triceps (or chest & biceps, again if it is a switch-up week)

I have been slacking in the traps & shoulders as I’ve been bogged down with work and having a hard time finding the 4th day to train. I just don’t know if someone working out for 1 and a half years is overtraining and when I’ve used up all the nutrients in my diet. What I do know is I need to start with a doable abs routine and fit that in, but that’s another entry for a later date. Right now I’m looking for advice on how to tweak my diet/routine to get some size on my other areas, not just my stomach! Also, during bulking do I cut out cardio or keep in in there on an off day?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, and if anyone lives in the NYC area and wants to train with me, that help a lot too, since my motivation seems to get affected by the cold weather.

Peace guys & gals!

Post-cutting headaches?

June 17, 2008

Anyone else take Animal Cuts? Has anyone encountered headaches after finishing the 21-day cycle? It seems to be what I’m experiencing now and it’s the only change I’ve made in the passed 3 weeks and it has me worried.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Cutting phase

May 27, 2008

So all the bulking has left me at 162lbs and feeling good. Now the time has come to cut and get as lean as possible.

My setup consisted of:

  • 3-month cycle of creatine (dropped 4 pounds of water since stopping)
  • No cardio
  • Level amounts of fat, protein, and carbs

My cutting is looking like this:

  • 21-day cycle of Animal Cuts (so I definitely can’t complain if the scales show a lower number than I want.)
  • Workouts have shifted to where I do 4 sets now instead of 3, and a 15-20 rep range instead of 10-12.
  • More protein, tad bit more fat, and a lot less carbs.

Let’s see how this goes. I will measure my bodyfat now before it gets serious and will report my findings in about 3 weeks.

1 month plan - March 4th to April 4th

March 4, 2008

So today I start my 1 month 10-pound plan. I saw it in the March 2008 Muscle & Fitness with Stan McQuay on the cover. I was hesitant to buy but after reading my brother-in-law’s copy and seeing a really informative meal plan, I felt like it was time to give it a shot. Then getting a friend request on MySpace from Stan, I was like ‘this has got to be fate’ lol. After picking up my own copy, I read through it and saw the workout regimen that goes along with the meal plan. It in itself, the whole 10-pounds in a month, is a bit dreamy as even the writer says, but I think this is all falling into place at the right time, with the warm weather returning (which I love 100% more than the cold weather) and feeling better about myself I think I can pull it off. Now that I think of it, every summer I would go away I would return 10 pounds heavier. Now, that’s not a month, but still at a certain point in my life I just stopped putting weight on, no matter what I ate. Now my only challenge is cutting up the abs, getting rid of that fat (there isn’t much anywhere else on my body) and also put on the lean muscle and keep it. This is my 2nd year training and I think I’ve worked through a lot over that 1st year and am getting closer to being on point as a bodybuilder. Diets, supplements, workout regimens, I’ve done a lot but haven’t stuck to one, which referring to the workout regimen I’m told is a good thing. Anyway, I think I’m trailing off, my main point in this post was to document the start of the most extreme workout and diet plan I’ve done in the past year and a half, and I can’t wait to report my results. Any progress is a good thing for me, since I’m such a hard gainer.
I’m currently 155, 5′7", let’s see what this dude can do!
