Hit the hills again

Well it’s been about 6 weeks since I ran the hills at the park since I strained my abs. Didn’t go all out but it felt good just to run semi-fast up the hill. Did 9 hills this morning and will try to pick up the pace next week. As for my workouts I’m going to start adding a fourth day of weights. I’m going to double up with runs and weights on the weekend. This way I’ll hit 2 body parts twice in a week and rotate them every 3 weeks. I’ll see how that goes and I’ll still take off Fridays.

US Open

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

Went to the Open at Bethpage Black today. I’ve played that course twice and it kicked my ass both times and that was when it was not in Championship condition. I saw Tiger and Phil drive the 12th hole and it amazes me how far they can hit it. I beleive Tiger is the best player I’ll ever see and always root for him. It was obvious late that he wasn’t going to win so I started rooting for Phil along with most of the other people there. Then when he screwed up the 16th and 17th I switched to Duval. Than he screwed up 17. We were standing at the 17th for the last 4 groups and the hole was electric especially when Phil came through but it didn’t help. I have nothing against Glover but I don’t really know who he is. We left after he finished 17 because there was no way we could get to 18 from where we were.

Got home relaxed for awhile and then hit legs and shoulders. Was still feeling good so I went out for a 3 mile run and finished it up with 3 sets of pullups and 2 sets of pushups. Pretty good day but the Open results could have been better.

Friday nights are killing me

Since softball started instead of getting a few hours of exercise and bs time with the fellas my routine is taking a serious hit. First I’ve been going to a BBQ joint for dinner which while having great food is not quite healthy. Than after the game I’ll usually have a few beers. Well those beers have been increasing in numbers and my Saturdays are usually feeling the brunt of it. I have to start getting out of there sooner. I don’t mind running on Saturdays and sweating out a couple beers but any more than that and I’m shot. I got to remember I’m not 21 anymore.

Encouraged

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

Went for a 4.25 mile run tonight and was feeling pretty good. After the run was still feeling good and I was able to do 4 sets of pullups and chinups and 3 sets of pushups. I was encouraged because there was less pain than last week and I think I might try the hills this weekend. I’ll see if there are any residual pains tomorrow but I think I’m about 85-90 percent right now.

Somewhere in the middle

My softball game got rained out last night so about 8 of the team members decided to go out for a few beers and watch the Mets and Yankee game last night. I got to different descriptions of myself so I figure I’m somewhere in the middle of the 2. Before I tore part of my left bicep I had just shy of 17 inch biceps cold. So he looks at my left bicep which is "bunched" up and tells me I have to start working out again. He was pretty drunk and didn’t feel like telling him that I still do but I can’t lift as much as I used too. A little while later anther guy tells me how when I swing I should use all y 220 or 230 pounds. When I told him I was down to 185 he didn’t believe me. What used to be an XL is now just an L. Like I said maybe I look somewhere in the middle.
As for this morning I had to sweat out the alcohol from last night. I ran 4 miles and more importantly did 2 sets of 10 pullups for the first time in weeks and had minimal pain in my lower stomach. Just about back to normal, can’t wait to be 100% again. I’ll do chest and tri’s a little later but it’s time for breaskfast now.

Rainout

Well my softball game got rained out tonight even though it’s beautiful out right now. I probably wasn’t going to play but now I don’t have to miss a game. I could use the next week to keep training at a level that won’t reinjure my strain.

Quick Update

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

My strain is healing but not fully yet. My stride is getting longer on my runs and my workouts are going fine except for my abs. Which of course need the most work. I can tell it’s healing because I tried to do a pullup today and only felt minor pain as opposed to last week when I couldn’t pull myself up without feeling like I was going to tear my insides. I’ll probably take tomorrow off from softball and hopefully be good to go next week.
