Ab Test

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

Went out for a jog this morning to see how my abs felt. Did a 5k in about 27 minutes. Had to force myself to slow down at times because the longer my stride the more I felt the strain. If I kept my stride short it felt fine. Tried to do a pullup afterwards but that was a no go. I was able to do pushups so that’s going to be my game plan for a while. A slow jog and pushups until my abs feel better. I may have to take a week off from softball as well as the stopping and starting to either run to first or field a ball on defene is where I’m putting the most strain on. The weather is getting so nice here in NY I hate to cut my workouts short but I have no choice. I’m going to lift later today but will keep the weight light and do more reps.

Ab Strain

Who knew playing softball could get you hurt? I had strained my abs a month or 2 ago and thought they were healed. My second at bat Wednesday night I rope a single between third and short and take off from home and just felt a pain in my abs. I figure it’s a strain and will take a few weeks to heal. I can’t get my abs to show but I’m straining them every few weeks now.

A week off

My body is telling me to take it easy so this week I’m going to take off. I’ve got a  nagging pain in my shoulder, legs and abs so instead of making things worse I’ll just try to rest and heal. I hate these off weeks especially as I was in a good groove but better to be smart about this.

What a difference a day makes

Yesterday I went out for my Saturday run and felt like I was flying. I averaged 7:50 for a 5k and that was with me stopping to talk to a guy for a bit. Today my legs felt heavy and dead and averagd 8:40 for 5 miles. I have to figure out if it was what I ate the day before both runs or if it was something else. On a side note the LI marathon is today and I feel a little bad about not running in it. I trained for it last year and did the half in just under 2 hours. The problem this year is I haven’t gone over 5 miles in about 7 months so I would never have finished this year. Maybe next year.

Ab ripper X update: I still haven’t been able to finish the whole routine without stopping but I think it is definately starting to show some results. I’m gonna keep going and hopefully by the end my lower abs will be visible. That’s my goal anyway.

P.S. I put 2 bucks on Mine That Bird at the Derby and it paid $103.20.  Broke even with all my smart bets.
