Great Cow Harbor run

Saturday, September 20th, 2008

I ran the Great Cow Harbor run this morning in Northport NY. It was a 10K that was actually hilly. I finished in a little of 52 minutes @ a 8:19 pace. Here on the south shore of LI it’s pretty flat so my running hills consists of going over bridges. From about the 1.5 mile mark to about the 2 mile mark I thought the hill was going to do me in. It took alot out of me because checking my watch said the 3rd mile was my slowest. We had great volunteers and a great crowd cheering us on all the way. Met up with my friend after the race and don’t usually drink so early in the morning but they had Michelob Ultra’s so I had to indulge. Had lunch, relaxed a little while and did my weight workout. It’s been an exercise day.

Softball League

Saturday, September 6th, 2008

We made it to the finals which we played Tuesday night. Best 2 out of 3 wins. The team we played we had gone 4-0 during the season and we all believed that we would be playing the other team in the finals. When I heard who we were playing I assumed they had a few "ringers" for the playoffs. When we got there it looked like maybe 1 or 2 guys were new but nothing out of the ordinary. Well we won the first game by 3 and the second game by 5 to win the championship. The only unfortunate thing was it was on a Tuesday night. Somehow that didn’t stop us from celebrating to the wee hours of the morning. I had to call in sick Wednesday and the hangover screwed up my workout. I had a wake to attend on Thursday and went into NYC last night to meet friends for dinner so I got nothing in since Monday. It was worth it though, I had a great time and we’re not getting any younger so who knows how many more opportunities we have at this. One guy said he’s already "retiring". He’s 48 and has got pain in his knees and shoulders, it’s too bad because he’s got a lot of fire and sparks the team. I’ve been retiring for the last 10 years but come March that itch always starts to come back. Here’s to the Dirty Dozen, a great bunch of guys and a great year.
